This was such a mixed bag for me, I love QT so having to give this a 6 is a savage disappointment.
I think this is a 7 for me.
I was disappointed too. Although I share a lot of McTeague's (good) critique of this, I think that it eventually fell short.
Samuel L. Jackson was fantastic and I am very, very sad he wasn't Oscar nominated.
8.
I like it well enough. It's super entertaining. It's well-written, well-directed and brilliantly acted, but never quite approach the thematic richness of Inglourious Basterds.

My second favorite of the actual nominees behind only ZDT. Greatly flawed and weirdly paced, but a blast of a time at the movies, and it genuinely aims for something thematically about slavery and its place in American history, and mostly hits its target.

An 8, bordering on 9. I really like it, but the part after DiCaprio and Waltz exit the picture doesn't do it for me. I get what Tarantino does, but it doesn't work for me (I'm also not a fan of the similar part in IB).
Very entertaining but not nearly as smart as Tarantino's best. 8
Quentin's peak, easily his most complex, powerful and fully realised film. A perfect 10.
Too long. 6.

I know I've got a big ego, I really don't know why it's such a big deal, though.
9/10
I think I agree that it's narrative structure and editing are a bit uneven and haphazard, but this is big, glorious American filmmaking of the best type. Wildly entertaining and an excellent example of the Western genre, while still honestly depicting (and blowing up) the brutal and dehumanizing institution of slavery. It's probably my favorite Tarantino, though I need to revisit his 90's films at some point.
8 - 9
I'm tending more to 9, because the last scenes with Waltz were absolutely amazing.
Otherwise I have to say that Dicaprio was better than expected, but not oscarworthy.
All the actors were really terrific with Sam Jackson as standout.
ARE YOU READY, JESSICA?
0, politely rounded up to 1.
In a year of lows, this film was the absolute lowest. An insanely misguided effort.

This weekend...one last chance to save Halle's career from complete oblivion. Oh, wait...

This is pretty much the exact inverse of my feelings on the film and year.
This is a perfect 8 for me. I really liked it, but the ending is a bit haphazard and it's a little too long.
Hugely entertaining and one of the best times I had at the movies this year,
6. I loved the first third, became disengaged during the second, and was flat-out annoyed and tired of the whole thing by the time the repetitive, drawn-out third rolled around.
But that first hour is a blast and a wonderful reminder of how unique Tarantino's cinematic voice really is. Waltz is great throughout, of course, and the rest of the cast is quite strong, as well. I have plenty of good to say about the movie, but as is the norm for me with Tarantino, I just felt the movie overstayed its welcome.
Yeah, the first third is outstanding, but the third one was just inexcusable. I just hated how Tarantino decided to send Waltz and DiCaprio's out and how it dragged after that.

For me it's a solid 7. The usual Tarantino with his strengths and weaknesses. I enjoyed Inglorious Basterds more I have to say.
It's like a McTeague post: I don't regret reading it but I seem to remember this guy having more to say and better ways to say it.
