    Jacki Weaver gets CBS comedy

    From EW:

    Best Supporting Actress Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver has signed on to star in the new single camera CBS comedy The McCarthys, EW confirmed Thursday.

    Weaver charmed audiences and Academy voters this past year with her portrayal of the supportive wife, mother and Philadelphia Eagles fan Dolores in Silver Linings Playbook. This new project will take the Australian actress to Boston to portray another mother in a similarly sports-obsessed family. Her character was described as “having no filter.” Jack McGee (who was in David O. Russell’s The Fighter) will play her husband Arthur, a politically incorrect high school basketball coach.

    I remember reading that CBS is going to be doing more of them. They've got the Bad Teacher series, Murphy's Beverly Hills Cop series, and that Robin Williams show in the works. The latter two might be light dramas more than comedies, though.

    Melissa M's success is pretty random, too. I was hoping she'd get a good tv role after Samantha Who got cancelled due Gilmore Girls being one of my favourites, but I never dreamed of the success she's currently having.
