    Announcing: AD's Top 100 Screenplays

    Dear lovelies,

Have we done this before? Recently?

If not, I'd like to tally up our Top 100 favorite scripts of all-time.

Please PM me your Top 10 list (ranked) by April 1st (extending again!) of what you believe are the most sublime scripts in cinematic history. They can be wordy ones or spare ones, funny ones or sad ones. I will compile them and come up with our list sometime in April.

Feel free to use this thread for FYC's.

    This should be fun!

I love these picks! I already sent my list, but now I wish I thought outside the box a little more. (I feel like a lot of my choices were hard to deny, but also pretty standard.)

One thing this made me reflect on is that great writing often isn't what I value most in a film. Like, I put Citizen Kane on my list, but it isn't my favorite Welles. Same with North by Northwest, which strikes me as having the most "perfect" screenplay of any Hitchcock film, though there are quite a few others I prefer to it (like Vertigo, Marnie, etc).

More and more, I really value good comedic writing. Comedy is, as Amy Taubin calls it, pleasure at its most direct. And yet it requires a lot of deliberation and technique and a unique sense of language and timing. That's stating the obvious, I know, but I find it really fascinating. In that spirit, FYC:

    And, forever and always, this.
