Completely agree Blasty. And to think that he lost to Ernest Borgnine in Marty that year - WTF?! And IMHO, he should have won back to back Oscars.

I've yet to see East of Eden, but Dean was marvelous in Rebel...BUT, Borgnine was also amazing and in my eyes a VERY deserved winner.

For Africans, we've got Hounsou and Theron.
And for Latin Americans, I can only think of Anthony Quinn. The thing with foreign actors is not that surprising, but African Americans being so inconstantly nominated. Last decade there was a growing number of nominees but think of how many one-hit-wonders we've seen (Sidibe, JHud, Mo'nique... Q Wallis is likely to go the same route).

Well, we Latin Americas at least have given the hottest nominees of late. Hayek, Moreno, Bazarra...

LMAO Timmy/Shimmy is probably the best thing to happen to Alice Brady's legacy.

A gossip columnist (Crazy Days and Nights) posted a blind item some years ago that one Oscar winner from the past had really been a man ('Timmy'). The story became hugely popular and made the guy famous, so although there wasn't anything to it he had to post more on it. He most likely took the Alice Brady suggestion from commenters who were speculating about the guy who stole her Oscar. He then continually put new spins on the story until it was eventually revealed that 'Timmy' was just a cross-dressing stand-in for Brady ('Shimmy'), which was a lot different from the original blind but kinda helped him cover his ass (since it couldn't be as easily disproven as the original claim). The guy's remained a popular source for blind gossip ever since, even though it was revealed in an article last year that he basically makes everything up.

    Oh, and:

I love that in the first few ceremonies, Best Actress was awarded after Best Picture. It's like an ADer ran the Oscar show in a past life.

Great. Now who's going to watch Sunday Rose on SAG night??

Another factoid I like and bust out at parties (not really) is that, from 1976-1979, all four Best Supporting Actress winners had the initials "M.S." - Mary Steenburgen, Maggie Smith, Maureen Stapleton, Meryl Streep.

Daniel Mann directed 3 lead acting winners but never got a Directing nom. I believe everyone else who's directed 3 lead acting wins won BD.

Ang Lee - The only 2x Bafta/DGA/Oscar-Winning Director!
Meryl on Oscars: Y’see these little babies? These are my best f***ing friends
and they never let me down. Try to get ‘em away from me and I’ll eat you alive.

Steenburgen was the last in that streak, and in 1980.

Is William Hurt the only person ever to be nominated three years in a row in Lead Actor in a Best Picture nominees (and also, to be the male lead of four BP nominees consecutively even though he wasn't nominated for The Accidental Tourist)?
