    Favorite Piece of Oscar Trivia?

Feel free to close this thread if I've placed it in the wrong forum, but I thought it would be fun to share our favorite Oscar facts and trivia with everyone and not let it get lost in a Random Oscar Thoughts thread, so I'll start...

Reading over this link, I was shocked to learn that of the 160 Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor Oscars that have been given out, only five (!) have gone to actors under 30. Am I interpreting that correctly?

I always loved the story of Will Rogers as host for the 32/33 Oscars because he really let the losers have it. There's the infamous Best Director moment when Frank Lloyd and Frank Capra were both nominated, Rogers opened the envelope and he said "Come and get it, Frank!" and Capra got up and ran down the aisle to get the award. Of course, the spotlight went on Frank Lloyd for Cavalcade and Capra had to walk back to the his seat in what he described as "the longest, saddest, most shattering walk in my life. All my friends at my table were crying". And then, when Best Actor and Actress came up, neither Laughton nor Hepburn were there to accept. With Actress, Rogers called May Robson and Diana Wynyard to the stage (remember this was only one year after Best Actor had tied, so maybe they thought they had tied) and instead he announced Hepburn had one and he gave both Robson and Wynyard a rose.

Then there's the great moment in 76 when Marty Feldman present Best Live Action Short Film. When the winner was announced, two producers came up to accept, so Feldman threw the Oscar on the ground and it broke in two and he gave each producer a piece of the statue.

Well, it's even worse in Lead Actor, isn't it? The only ones around 30 or so to win are Richard Dreyfuss and Daniel Day-Lewis and Adrien Brody, I believe. And I guess William Hurt was kinda youngish when he won too, 35 or so. If you're under 40 and you win in Lead Actor, it's impressive.

Timmy is probably the greatest story I've ever heard.

Mako was nominated for The Sand Pebbles. Haing S. Ngor won too for The Killing Fields. Jocelyn La Garde was nominated for Hawaii. And Rinko of course. That's off the top pf my head.

Oh, well excuse me, Jocelyne LaGarde doesn't qualify as Asian - she was from the island of Tahiti.

Because Kingsley wasn't born in Asia.

But our southern belle Vivien Leigh was. Doesn't that image just scream "India"?

That link I posted in the initial post has this broken down, along with Supporting Actor, Actress, and Supporting Actress. It also has oldest winners and nominees, as well as youngest winners and nominees.
