You guys left out Cianfrance.
The Place Beyond the Pines!
If it comes out this year, I'm going with
#1. David O. Russell, he of 7 acting noms + 3 acting wins in 3 years. Though he'll need Globes, DGA, and Bafta to not all snub his directing work.
Of those with a lot of votes here: Coen has 4 Oscars, Clooney has 2, Payne has 2. Cuaron & Wells haven't a nom. I guess I could put Scorsese at 2nd...apparently his only Directing nom that got him a producing nom is Hugo. I would have thought they'd stick his name as a producer for Departed.
Ang Lee - The only 2x Bafta/DGA/Oscar-Winning Director!
Meryl on Oscars: Y’see these little babies? These are my best f***ing friends
and they never let me down. Try to get ‘em away from me and I’ll eat you alive.
My director nominees:
Alexander Payne, Nebraska
Jason Reitman, Labor Day
David O. Russell, Untitled Abscam Project
Martin Scorsese, The Wolf of Wall Street
Ridley Scott, The Counselor
(I think Monuments Men will be the Argo of 2013 by not getting nominating and letting his film win.
