I know right? The worst thing about an Argo BP win would people justifying every crazy prediction with Argo winning without a BD nod. Argh

Though I myself made that comparison earlier, I will say that Nicholson is much more prominent in this story, and arguably the third biggest role overall after Streep and Roberts. It's just a matter of whether or not Nicholson plays the hell out of the role.

Also, Julianne Nicholson is an actress who has done fine work on stage and screen since 1997.
Barks was some talent TV show survivor in hear film debut.

I don't buy this comparison. Nicholson has a terrific role that will likely remain unchanged. Barks also had buzz, but she ended up with a slimmed down role and muted impact overall. I can't imagine the same thing happening here. Plus, August: Osage County just feels...baitier? It's chock full of high-wire, dynamic performances. This is the kind of stuff actors absolutely live for. If she "plays the hell out of the role" (as Jonathan says), she's in an excellent position. Thomas also has a important point re: Nicholson vs. the inexperienced Barks. Again, I could be wrong, but I see no reason not to consider her at this point.

Also, people are expecting A:OC to be a big player, right? Most people who predicted Barks also predicted Les Miz to be a much stronger contender than it ended up being.

Plus, for every Samantha Barks there's a Jessica Chastain, Octavia Spencer, Viola Davis, Anna Kendrick, etc. "Unkowns" get into this category all the time. Plus, Julianne Nicholson, an actress who has been working steadily in TV for many years, is much more like the aforementioned women than Barks. She makes a lot of sense as the breakout, first time nominee in this category.

Even with both Streep and Roberts’ roles getting lead noms on the stage, only Martindale’s role got into supporting. And there are far, far more US theatrical releases than there are New York non-musical plays each year.

Also, Barks’s role was way more baity than Nicholson’s character who as written is to me dull and spineless. Only one movie has ever gotten 4 actress noms, so it would be smart to only push 3 of the movie’s ladies as August is no All About Eve.

If Lead Tony winning roles can go supporting (Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jennifer Hudson), so can a Lead Tony losing role (Roberts).

Yeah, four Actress nominations would be a stretch. Streep is a fact, then two Supporting Actress nominations - Martindale and either Nicholson or Lewis. Roberts can introduce their SAG Ensemble clip.

    Adams
    Blanchett
    Martindale
    Nicholson
    Spencer

That makes sense to me this far out. Too much sense actually. I will be surprised if The Butler is not a fiasco.

Great. Now who's going to watch Sunday Rose on SAG night??

I don't think anyone knows anything yet about this project, lol. However, the combination of O. Russell (his last two films have gotten 7 actors nominated) + Amy Adams (perennial nominee) seems like a good enough recipe for a year-in-advance pick.

I have the script for the new Russell (though fairly major changes were apparentley made). I'll let y'all know, but if Adams gets nominated again,
