    If it is critically acclaimed...

Streep's nomination is locked, and if she hadn't won for The Iron Lady her win would be too, but I can't see her winning again so soon.

    Besides...Blanchett needs this
    unless Winslet nabs it

If Streep won't win again so soon, Winslet definitely won't.

  3. #123
It'll be 5 years since her last win, the same time period Swank and Penn won their second Oscars. It'll be 5 years since DDL won his as well. So it's definitely not impossible for Winslet.

    Fair enough.

I don't think a fourth win for Streep is out of the question either. She's seen as the greatest of all time, certainly worthy of equalling Hepburn's achievement, and this could be her strongest film in a while (though I'm not quite predicting it to be).

Well, Harvey's producing it. I could see him murdering anyone he has to in order to make sure August is critically acclaimed.

If she becomes undeniable like DDL this year then she can definitely win the award.

I read How I Live Now just in case Ronan is possible...she's mostly just a bland, whiny teen, so no.

I also read Labor Day. I can't see Winslet winning, but a nom is possible. Main moments:
    1. After multiple miscarriages, she finally goes into labor again…to a stillborn baby.
    2. She cries as the police come to take Frank away; he ties her and Henry up so they won’t get in trouble for harboring a fugitive.

    3. Not actually in the book, but her happy reunion with Frank after he finishes his term in prison.
    4. Her son says he doesn’t have anyone else in his life because he has no siblings, and all she cares about is sex with Frank. She is upset by this.

Brolin is possible as supporting, especially in a flashback sequence explaining how he got where he is. But the main lead is Gattlin Griffith, most famous for being the son in Angie's "I want MY son back! I want my son!" I'm unsure how good Reitman is with child actors, and I've never seen Changeling, but if he sucks he could blow the whole film. Or, Reitman could have restructured things to make him less of the main lead.

Ang Lee - The only 2x Bafta/DGA/Oscar-Winning Director!
Meryl on Oscars: Y’see these little babies? These are my best f***ing friends
and they never let me down. Try to get ‘em away from me and I’ll eat you alive.

I actually really liked the book (I was younger then ), but yes, this film will not make a dent anywhere. The kid who plays Angie's son or the 'fake' one?

The man who leaves and the man who comes back are not the same.

Hilary Swank is going to have a banner year ... She will be nominated by GG, Emmy and SAG for Mary and Martha, has a baity role in post-production (You'r not you, but it's a G.C Wolfe and and Shanah Feste movie so I'm doubtfull about her awards chance for that) and The Homesman is now in pre-production on imdb, with a 2013 realise date. Could Tommy Lee Jones, Swank and Streep (three AMPAS favorites) be in the conversation this year ?
