Personally, I think that Argo would make for an even lousier winner than The Artist. -_- It's my second least favorite of the nominees other than Les Miserables. I figure this will end the PGA's five year prediction streak. I mean, I don't really think that Argo will garner enough support from the actors, the actors are pretty much SLP's or Lincoln's.

I still think that it's Lincoln, or SLP. Or maybe, just MAYBE, the Academy could go for something totally unexpected and shock us to holy hell like they did with the nominations. We could end up seeing something that no one expected, like maybe Life of PI or Zero Dark Thirty, or even maybe something totally insane like Amour or Beasts. Just something to break the boring rut. I'm pretty sure there's tons of passion for Pi, especially from the technical branches, and Beasts and Amour, considering their totally unexpected yet extremely awesome nomination tally.

    DUN LET GO!!!!!!!!!!!

People should stop pretending they hate Argo. Like, really. Yeah, it's not brilliant filmmaking the way The Master is, but it's pretty entertaining, fun and perfectly crafted. It's not bad at all. At all. And makes a perfect Best Picture winner considering how crazy the year has been.

I don't see that passion yet. Maybe it will start tonight. For that matter Beasts should be considered a frontrunner too. And well, it's not.

I don't think most people hate it. I actually quite like it. It's just that it's so far down our "best movies of 2012" lists that most people feel it makes a pretty lousy winner. It' a fine movie. But, c'mon, Argo winning would be quite boring, because it never reaches the heights that most of the other nominees do, especially since this is quite a great lineup

What's Spirits? And I kinda do see the passion. Just go to Twitter and look at all the acting-branch members fawning all over the movie.

    This is dispiriting.

Shouldn't the point be to award the Best Film of the year, instead of the Most Not Bad one? At least in theory?

I myself enjoyed Argo more than Django, Lincoln and Life of Pi, but less than Beasts or Amour.

I can never understand the fascination with Argo. I guess it's about staying relevant for many filmmakers???

If there's any film in this line-up that I think won't stand the test of time, it's Argo. I forgot about it 2 minutes after I left the theater. It's that kind of movie...perfectable watchable, but nothing that stays with you. No great performances, no incredible moments, just...competence.

I liked the movie but I think it's gotten a lot more attention since people think Affleck was snubbed for Best Director. These are all make-up awards + it has CLOONEY.

Should we be predicting it now for Editing & the Sound awards?

I always thought Argo was the Editing frontrunner even when it wasn't the Best Picture frontrunner. I mean, what else would win, SLP?

Yea true. (though I thought the Editing in SLP was good lol)

I forget too that Goldenberg is also up for ZDT (with Dylan Tichenor... who's yet to win), so yea, he's def. taking one of those.

What are you predicting for Sound / Sound Editing?

It couldn't win this award. With the same ballot as the Oscars. The only one!

That tells you all that you need to know. It's not winning Best Picture. Let's see how the industry audience reacts to tonight's SLP wins.

People should begin to stop the "Argo is winning because of pity of Affleck being snubbed" theory. After sweeping all the precursors here and there, it barely makes sense.

Actually, I did, too. I even nominated it in my personal awards. But it is so uncommon for a romcom to win Editing...

I'd be more confident in ZDT winning Best Sound Editing if it had been nominated for Mixing as well although Letters from Iwo Jima won it and wasn't up for Mixing.

It seems the Academy tends to give both awards for the same films more often than not (last year, in 2011, 2010, 2008, 2006), so Argo, Skyfall or Life of Pi could be considered threats.

O.K. then who is winning Best Director? Should we consider DGA history seriously or will this be the first year that non-DGA nominated director will win?
Spielberg vs. the Industry. Who Will Win In The End?

    Spielberg lost.

Affleck was such an obvious winner. I can't still believe he got snubbed.
I'd say O'Russell. 7 acting nominees in the last 2 films is impressive enough.

I'm betting on O. Russell, even without the DGA nod. Unless, of course, the passion for Life of Pi is much stronger than we perceive.

King's Speech had grossed $114 million when it won the best picture award. Slumdog Millionaire had $98 million. Argo will be over $120 million when the award is announced.

I'm not going to read through this entire thread, so I'm not sure what has or hasn't been said already, but this clearly hurts Lincoln a lot. However, I still don't think Argo will win Best Picture. I actually think all of this helps Silver Linings Playbook the most. That being said, this is a really weird year and it wouldn't surprise me if the precursors truly mean nothing this time around.
