Greatest Show on Earth. BP and what may or may not have been a screenplay award back then.

So much I agree with on the last pages (and so much crazy), but this. People who really believe The King's Speech will be forgotten probably also think Forrest Gump is forgotten. TKS will surely be one of the most popular wins with the general public, lmao.

re: this race, I'm gonna predict the DGA winner (which yeah, will be Argo). And it's winning Screenplay.

This. Before AD i thought i was the only person in the world who disliked Forrest Gump, seriously people LOVE that movie.

Who said The King's Speech or Forrest Gump would be forgotten? For that matter who talked about the general public's feelings?

Lincoln is dead in the water.

I hate to admit it, but the unbearable McTeague was right - no passion for the film. It's respected, coldly, nothing more. The fact that critics went for ZDT and Argo instead was less an issue than televised awards favoring Affleck's thriller.

Props to those who saw this coming.

My guess is either Argo or SLP will win Picture, and either Russell or Lee will get the damn directing Oscar.

Argo could win Picture, Adapted Screenplay, Editing. SLP might walk away with Picture, Director, Actress, Supporting Actor and Screenplay.

Personally, I don't care. Beasts is the best of the bunch, anyway, and I don't want to see The Beard winning for a film nobody loves. The backlash would be awful.

Actually there is passion for it among audience and I am sure most people would be pleased with its winning than Argo but coming to industry it is different thing. As I said before I think there is no "passion" in any awards. If there was big passion for Argo they would nominated Affleck. So I think our and their understanding of passion is far different.
Spielberg vs. the Industry. Who Will Win In The End?

    Spielberg lost.

That is actually a very interesting and bizarre statistic.

Some interesting analysis and I do kinda see Lincoln going down as an also ran in the BP race. I struggle somewhat with the idea that O'Russell might take the Oscar for direction, mainly because he lacks any kind of precursors and is not in a position at this stage to win anything other than acting and writing prizes for his film pre oscars.

Lincoln has a big box office because :

    - Teachers tell their students to go see it.

    - 60+ people want to see the movie about the guy their grandparents knew.

And they all obey, without question. Right.

We're talking about awards. General audiences do not vote on those. Of course it's the industry - which has not enough passion for the film.

There is plenty of passion for Argo outside AMPAS.

    So ?

The movie has no real passion, even with its audience.

Everybody go see that movie out of respect for the subject matter, Lincoln the super hero, more so than the movie itself.

You're just assuming that. Only an idiot would take your evidence-less words seriously.

People laughed at me and McTeague for the whole "no passion" thing but I think we were basically right. Everyone likes and respects it but noone wants to go out to bat for it.

At this point there isn't any passion for any film except Argo?
