David Fincher to direct "Gone Girl"?

    http://www.deadline.com/2013/01/davi...e-girl-at-fox/

David Fincher is eyeing coming aboard Gone Girl, the Gillian Flynn novel that was just published by Crown and has been a bestselling phenomenon that was acquired in a 7-figure deal by 20th Century Fox to be produced by Pacific Standard’s Reese Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea, along with Leslie Dixon. Flynn wrote the first draft of the screenplay.

The plot: a woman disappears on the day of her fifth anniversary and all roads point to her husband as the killer. Flynn, who has three novels on the bestseller lists all at once, has two other movie projects in the works. Dark Places has Amy Adams attached to star, with Gilled Paquet-Brenner directing and her first novel, Sharp Objects, was optioned by Alliance with Blumhouse’s Jason Blum producing.
Sounds closer to Zodiac and Se7en than Button.

This should be AMAZING. I think this is a perfect match of director/material.

It sounds very promising but ugh, I fear Witherspoon will want to play the female lead since she's been owning the rights to this for over a year. Charlize Theron, on the other hand, would be amazing.

Or maybe he could get his muse Rooney Mara.

Anyway, a new Fincher film is always something to look forward to.

No, Zac, I'm going with my Nanny.

I liked the book, but I'm not sure if it's suited for film.

I LOVE this book. There's a reason that it's still T10 on Amazon today after months of release.

They'll need an actress who can play a very complex, nuanced, ever-shifting character. I wonder how they're going to do the diary half of the book though. Massive amount of voiceovers?

The Amy Adams adaptation is of a much less interesting book with far simpler characters; I'm not going to watch that.

I think he/she is refering to the Chastain/McAvoy movie.

I'm not familiar with the source material, but honestly, I was hoping for that Cleopatra remake. I feel that in the right hands, it could be amazing, and Fincher definitely felt like the right hands. I'm not sure what it is with the industry, but it seems like when one film is talked about as a possibility, a million other movies get made first, - I'm thinking of Scorcese's Silence and The Irishman, Spielberg's Robopocalypse (though I'm aware some aren't too excited with that project), and now Cleopatra. Anyway, Fincher is one of two directors that I get excited for and anticipate seeing what they offer next (the other being Scorcese. Tarantino and Tim Burton used to be in this group), so I'm still excited for this

Isn't Ang Lee in talks for Cleopatra? That's hardly a downgrade, imo

Jolie Cleopatra is not a remake. Lee said saturday he was invited to direct and also said he is probably going to accept.

It's in the original post, so I don't think any confusion was my fault.

This site says Emily Blunt is being tipped for the lead.

Producers want Blunt for the lead role of a screen adaptation, with the actress reportedly being perceived to be more appropriate for the lead role than Reese Witherspoon.

Witherspoon was initially linked to star in the film after it was confirmed that she will produce.
