Well said Elessar. We have both talked about how Sasha gets way too focused on one movie and rejects all others because of it. But to say her and Wells are peas in the pod is the equivalent of saying that Wesley Morris and Rex Reed are peas in the pod because they both have done scathing critiques on films.

Sasha needs to stop taking Wells seriously. The Vinessa Shaw crap was the last straw for me paying attention to that guy.



The Lincoln screenplay has been the bigtime favorite for months. Many persons who were not even Lincoln fans considered it a lock to win. To act as if Thompson is some sort of unrealistic fool because she figured it was a lock (like most people had until just recently) seems over the top.

I never thought it was a lock. But I am extremely cynical and think these awards are a joke every year. A person like Thompson clearly has more faith in the process. If she was to the point of going I think Beasts of the Southern Wild will win best picture I could understand you going she "no realist." But she was thinking Lincoln would win best adapted screenplay for goodness sake. Are you seriously thinking that was some grand, foolish leap she was making? Really?

I think it was foolish declaring absolutely definitively that "Lincoln" was going to win as she did on the latest podcast, yes. "Lincoln" wasn't much of a favourite anyway, as soon as "Argo" took a stranglehold on this race Screenplay was going to have to follow in lieu of any Directing or Acting awards, some people (Sasha, Anne) have just been living in denial.

Let’s talk about that supposed masterpiece of scripts, Lincoln: let’s talk about how, after it’s been clearly stated that Thaddeus Stevens is a very principled man who thinks blacks are equals in everything to whites, and that saying otherwise means to him a terrible betrayal of his conscience, Tony Kushner thinks us so stupid that, after Stevens lies in the congress and says he thinks “equality” has to be merely legal, he includes a scene in which a member of his same faction scolds him for betraying his principles and he spells out his reasons for doing so. LOL, such MASTERFUL writing! It’s not redundant in the least! And besides the movie was so short that they needed, by all means, to include that scene!

This year is really quite embarrassing.

Yeah, this sums it up pretty nicely. Terrio's script being singled out is so strange to me and especially it winning when up against stuff like Lincoln and Silver Linings Playbook. Oh well. Argo's sweep is impressive, but seeing everyone once again go for mediocre entertainment is the kind of thing one just has to laugh about.
