I know I've got a big ego, I really don't know why it's such a big deal, though.
This is one of those categories where i can't help but think: "How can anyone NOT vote for him?" And that him is Hoffman. He was just absolutely amazing and I think his performance is undeniable. Waltz was great but I preferred DiCaprio. Jones was great too. DeNiro was alright. Arkin was shit.
Woah. Robert De Niro brought on the tears in this interview.
01. Tommy Lee Jones, Lincoln
02. Phillip Seymour Hoffman, The Master
03. Christoph Waltz, Django Unchained
04. Robert De Niro, Silver Linings Playbook
05. Alan Arkin, Argo

Returning to Hollywood with a Vengeance in 2013
I have no idea why De Niro is nominated at all.
I have seen Silver Linings Playbook and I enjoyed the movie itself, and the performances by Cooper, Lawrence, and even Weaver, but De Niro? He had barely anything to act. I can't belive that Ezra Miller or Eddie Redmayne were snubbed because of him being Robert De Niro.

Recently, many people seem to prefer Weaver to DeNiroLook at the ranking Oscar nominees thread.

I haven't seen any of the nominees...but like, I'm really starting to think that De Niro could win this.
That's a bingo!
It feels wildly different than the performance that he won for, and his nominated performance for Charlie Wilson's War was much lighter. I guess this is close to Doubt, but I find it better not to think of that movie in general.
why do people keep saying Deniro? where is the support? Not at SAG or BAFTA and he doesn't have the Globes either. If there was one place that he needed more than anything it was SAG and yet Argo won ensemble. That just tells you they don't love SLP alot. Lawrence will be the only SLP win for acting.
Now that I have seen all the nominees I would rank them as:
1. Hoffman
2. Waltz
3. De Niro
4. Arkin
5. Jones
I agree it's very different from Capote (haven't seen CWW). But it's close to Doubt, and Savages, and Before the Devil Knows You're Dead. At first I was satisfied to see differences, but after his first twenty minutes or so, it was, again, PSH's trademark intensity + outburst + sudden peace again, all with a slightly menacing touch. Joaquin Phoenix swept the floor with him.
