Likely, the holds SLP continues to have considering it's been out for 2.5 months now is just astonishing.

    Friday box office.

All holdovers had good Friday-to-Friday holds, but Silver Linings Playbook stands out once again. It had 2% increase! The run is now reminding me of There's Something About Mary. In fact, the last three frames are reminiscient of what Mary had from week 3 on.
    Recent watched movies:

    Django Unchained - B
    Les Miserables - A-
    Ted - B-
    Lincoln - A
    Silver Linings Playbook - B+

    My thoughts on box office

Expectations for SLP gross, either by Oscar night (Feb 24) or its final gross?

I'd say right now $120+ million is set for a final gross. It has three more weekends before Oscar night (Big nominees usually enjoy incredible holds in that time) and Valentine's Day is also in there, which will help even more. I'd say $125-130 million right now with "just" an Actress win. If it can somehow still upset for Picture (Unlikely, but who knows), the sky's the limit.

Box Office Mojo says the top romantic comedy of the 2010s so far is Valentine's Day with $110 mil. So that'd be impressive...plus there are probably many who despise VD and will be happy about that.

The last romcom to make $120 was...The Proposal, which also happened to help net SaBu a Best Actress Oscar. How coincidental.

FYI The Proposal made over 160 million in the U.S., not 120.

Er, yeah it did. Having two massive blockbusters in a single year was a big deal.

I think what jjj meant was that no film since The Proposal has even made over $120 million, let alone $130 million, $140 million, $150 million or $160 million.

Lawrence is SaBu all over again, except, you know, deserving.
I know I've got a big ego, I really don't know why it's such a big deal, though.

I do love how just a few weeks ago people were touting SLP as a box office flop -- totally ignoring the fact that it made nearly 40 million in limited release.

Of course, each of JLaw's hits is more acclaimed than either of Bullock's.

And the combined box office, either domestically or worldwide, of Hunger Games + Silver Linings >> Proposal + Blind Side.

Both The Proposal and The Blind were Sandra vehicles sold mostly on her name... Can we say the same about The Hunger Games? Even SLP is arguable since it also has Bradley Cooper and was doing merely OK until after the Oscars awards and others.

Besides, Sandra was well into her 40's at the time so her accomplishments will always be more impressive. Lawrence couldn't even manage double Golden Globe nominations.

The blind side made nothing overseas, it was a pure u.s. Phenomenon. And you could say it eas based on a popular book, too.

Anyway, j.law appears to be the new julia roberts, so she might lose out on her second oscar nom. At the same time, if she does win, i fear the oscar curse might hit her, i mean she is good, but not exceptional.
