The non-shocking shocker of tomorrow will either be Haneke or Anderson. I'm betting on the latter right now. The LAFCA trend is too strong to ignore.

Since all I care about is Looper in Original Screenplay, I think I'll wake up at like eight and peruse at my own leisure before setting up my Oscar pool.
I forgot to set my alarm to watch the nominations last year, so I didn't get the chance to whoop with delight when Malick got Director and The Tree of Life made it into Picture. Will not be making that same mistake this year, just in case Moonrise Kingdom or The Master over-perform.

E! always has the Oscar nominations announced live. They actually do it the best with a mini preview before hand and a post-game afterwards. The guy they get usually knows what he's talking about unlike the news channels.
Here's hoping that the tech voters don't forget Cloud Atlas.
poor watts could be this years swinton. back to being the nanny again.
i have yet to see the impossible, but I thought she deserved one both in 2001 for mulholland drive and then 2006 for the painted veil. so a nomination would be welcomed for me. what i find so much fun in this years oscar is that all of the acting categories are uncertain. only one-two locks in each category. the rest are all fighting for their last breath of air.
You can do it, Naomi! You're...
ONLY 10 EASY STEPS AWAY FROM OSCAR!
1.) Bankrupt small, independent distributor via massive Oscar campaign. Failing that, proceed to...
2.) Cash in King Kong residual checks to pay for FYC advertisements from Kinko's.
3.) To avoid getting sent straight to VOD, attach entire film as a "trailer" to another film people actually want to see. And then...
4.) Try to do it Lahti-style and win Academy Award for Best Short Film.
5.) Avoid telling a story that everyone already knows by adding exciting details and/or gratuitous editing.
6. Carefully and patiently weather the wrath of film critics/the royal family/the tabloids/Diana-maniacs for trying to add said details. (Good luck!)
7. Find all of the boxes with "August: Osage County" screeners and slip in self-made cam bootleg from premiere screening at Lowes...the hardware store.
(Not Loews, the movie theater -- too expensive!)
8. Trick octogenarian Oscar voters into thinking that you are, in fact, a real princess. (Hey, it worked on Eva Marie Saint!)
9. On Oscar night, have camera crews come to Nicole's house, Joan Crawford-style, so you can win and keep your day job.
10. OSCAR!
Ok, so what do we think about Editing?
ZDT, Argo, Lincoln are total locks. Life of Pi is probably one too as it's just making it in everywhere. The 5th spot is problematic. I've had SLP in for while, but the buzz on it has kind of died the last few days. It does have some showy editing for a film of its sort, but I don't think it'll get in here unless it's a top 5 Best Picture nominee and it isn't feeling like one anymore. Django is a possibility, but it hasn't gotten that much praise for its editing I feel (despite the BAFTA nod) and this isn't Sally Menke. Then there's Skyfall, which makes so much sense, but I'm not sure if I want to give 5 nominations, especially since it can still possibly get up to 8. So thoughts?
I really wish the ACE was today as well.
The man who leaves and the man who comes back are not the same.
I'm going with Skyfall in Editing. Just a feeling that the tech branches are gonna embrace it more than the top branches![]()
How it is likely Lincoln getting 14 noms?
That's a good point. But, I'm really leaning towards Skyfall. I know this is Bond and all and I've been one of the people that have really doubted all along for just that reason, but it's really showy work and Stuart Baird has been nominated twice before (granted it was a while ago, but still). I just think people like this film and the techs will respond to it.
As for Les Mis, I'm confident that its editing will not be rewarded. Cinematography, I guess, but not editing. Other than it's direction, the editing was widely seen as the most problematic aspect of the film. I mean it couldn't even get a BAFTA nomination.
I am so happy I give so little a fuck about these. I will check supporting actress (for God and L'Hunt, of course), and, like, probably some of the tech noms? And that'll pretty much be that.
