True...that is odd, and yet he is a young British actor who carried his entire film (poorly, but whatever) and Barks is a stage actress who was upstaged by Anne Hathaway in an ensemble film.

No, she was eligible last year because MMMM screened for BAFTA members in 2011 and opened in early Feb 2012 in the UK

I love Juno Temple after Killer Joe, so here's hoping she wins (she won't).

I honestly feel like she has as much of a chance as any of the others. Like, it's a public vote so quality doesn't really come into it. And aside from Sharma, who is the total newbie and probably has no chance, it's not like anyone on the rest of the nominee list is any more familiar to the average person on the street than Temple. Plus, she's the only one who was in a movie with a big fanbase in the past year (even if it's unlikely they'd mobilise to get her the award but weirder things like Adam Deacon winning last year have happened)

    He's Indian.

Also, good on BAFTA for choosing the 5 nominees again, unlike the disaster last year where they picked a long list and the public voted the top 5, which led to that all-male lineup.

I voted for Sharma, but this year every winner is OK for me!

Samantha Barks is not a rising star in UK.

    Yes, she has peaked.

    Great lineup.

I've been voting for Vikander, for having seen both A royal affair and Anna Karenina, she excelles in both, and while a bit upstaged by mikkel boe folsgaard in Affair, having seen Anna again, I think she is so breathtaking and yes steals Knightleys thunder. The ball scene alone where she catches Vronsky and Anna is just sublime and without Vikander saying a word, her eyes show her defeat, her heartbreak, but most of all her will for revenge against both Vronsky and Anna. Great performance.

I guess there goes Wallis shot at a BAFTA nomination, if she couldn't even get in here it's less likely she'll get in for actress.

Do they really nominate little kids for this award much? I thought it was more about career potential.

This is more for star potential though and british actors/actresses. I mean Kristen Stewart and Tom Hardy won it in the past.

Juno Temple will probably win this. I imagine she probably has the biggest fanbase out of these nominees (Atonement queens, Dark Knight Rises fanboys, etc.).

They never nominate kids in this, so no.

Please. This is a sign that Samantha is getting in the big, important category!
