Well, Dench herself did it in 2002 with Iris and The Shipping News.

Dame Judi herself did it for Iris and The Shipping News. But again, the "wtf" nomination of those two was in Supporting.

Great. Now who's going to watch Sunday Rose on SAG night??

It wasn't reall a WTF nomination, she got SAG as well. It's mildly surprising she didn't get an Oscar nom for it really.

If Close makes it into BAFTA, she has to win.

The film just didn't take off. I think when she got into SAG it was already more like a Cloris Leachman in Spanglish thing (plus, their Supp Actress nominees that year were fucked up).

But I don't think Dench is a shoo-in here at all? I wouldn't be surprised if she's nominated, but the category is a bit crowded, what with the two Oscar frontrunners, a dame, and two Frenchwomen (plus Q and the faux Brit)
This again, how is Watts a faux Brit? Anyway, Dench has gotten double nods before and I think she'd be ahead of Wallis; her performance is simply too subdued and her film might be too indie for BAFTA.

    BAFTA :

    Jennifer Lawrence
    Jessica Chastain
    Helen Mirren
    Emmanuelle Riva
    Marion Cotillard

that's my guess. with Watts replacing Mirren at the Oscars

Because she grew up in Australia? She's British (and Welsh) by nationality, and lived in the UK for a bit, but identifies as Aussie and that is how the public views her.

This BAFTA/Oscar schedule is so fucked up. We'll all be scrambling trying to decide what is going to happen in a short space of time. lol

    ^^ I miss that GIF.

I fully expect to see Helen Mirren come up at BAFTA because Brits love Hitchcock in general and also like movies about Hollywood like Hitchcock. that being said, I wouldn't say she's a shoe in for the Oscar after that.

I think if Quvenzhane shows up at BAFTA, which I highly doudt she will , because they rarely nominate Lead Actresses from small American indies (no nods for Hathaway in Rachel, Lawrence in Winters Bone, Williams in Blue Valentine) etc
so if Quvenzhane can somehow get their vote, then I would believe she is getting in at the Oscars , if not, and especially if RIVA get's in (which I'm sure she will ) then RIVA will be in a much better position.

I just don't think Jessica, Jennifer, Naomi, and Marion will all make everything (BFCA + SAG + GG + BAFTA) = one of them isn't going to make it at BAFTA I think.

which is why I feel good about

Lawrence, Chastain, Mirren, Riva, and Cotillard at BAFTA

She spent the first FOURTEEN years of her life in the UK and returned to England many times while living in Australia. If she'd moved to Australia at the age of 4 or five, then maybe. But 14? She's no faux-brit.

This is exactly why I'll still be predicting Wallis even if she misses BAFTA.

    Dame Leo remembers,

Oh Albert! How I've missed you and your pasty white skin and child pedophile like features! This season is just dying for a Nobbs!

I still wish the posters of this forum could have rented a theater and watched this camp classic together.
This is why Julianne Moore has never won an Oscar

That's probably because the Brits tend to nominate their own actors, and you end up with a line-up of only like two or three real contenders. So i guess i should include Dench or Close in my predictions? lol I dunno.

So before watching that video, I didn't bother to really keep up with Peter Travers. After watching that video, I'm glad I haven't been.
