I knew people here turned cold on American Beauty, but The English Patient as well? That's one of my favorite films ever.
I know I've got a big ego, I really don't know why it's such a big deal, though.

Nah, it's just among young boys from 15 to 25, more or less. The kind that can't stand a slow-moving, meditative piece. I recently read a piece in which the writer was outraged that it beat... Jerry Maguire, LMAO, which is like, one of the worst nominees ever. But, it's about sports, funny, with big stars!

Wow, Annie Hall didn't even win the Globe for musical/comedy nor Director. It's interesting when you go back at the Globes history how often they didn't go with the major Oscar winner.
What was interesting to me about 1977 when I looked at the Wiki page was that that year the Comedy/Musical side of the Globes actually had more people making up Oscar's lineup than the Drama side did. Comedy/Musical had Dreyfuss, Allen and Travolta and Drama had Burton and Mastroianni. That's the only time that three Comedy/Musical nominees made it through to Oscar.

It also happened three times in Actress (1964, 1979, 2005). Interesting stat.
