Lincoln by Steven Spielberg. Best Picture and Best Director.
This is getting my #1 vote for Director and I'm going to fill the rest of my directing category ballot with junk that has no chance of a nomination, just to further bolster Bela Tarr's chances. I hope everyone else who loves the film joins me in doing the same, since that's the ONLY chance of a nomination. Best Picture can be whatever, but we need to get this film a directing nomination. Very few people will have seen the film, so we absolutely must band together here.
Isn't that a way to manipulate the results? I know people does it but then we are not that far away from the academy. I think we should cast our votes with those people or films that we think deserve it.
And now with the preferential system if there is enough passion for it it will get there without having to care for the rest of the ballot.

Most people vote strategically and it's not gonna change.
And I know this isn't the right place, but could someone just quickly explain the preferential system vs. the old one?
I know I've got a big ego, I really don't know why it's such a big deal, though.
Basically this is the process for a preferential system:
1. 1st round of voting: The movies without a single Number 1 mention are eliminated from the race. Then Number 1 votes are counted.
If those number 1 votes surpass a magical number (Number of voter/(Number of slots +1 e.g. 100 voters, 5 slots for Best Picture, then 100/(5+1)=16,67, and then you round it up to 17) the film is nominated
Now if a movie is so beloved that has 34 number 1 spots, then their ballots get redistributed to their second or third choice (always to the movies still in contention) with a value determined by a formula I don't remember.
2. 2n round: The ballots are counted again with the redistributed ones. So then it is time to see what movies have enough votes to get nominated. If there are not 5 nominees then the ones with lowest amount of votes get eliminated and their ballots redristributed until there are 5 nominees.
At least, that what I understood.
