Thread: Best Actor: Post-BFCA/SAG/GG, 2

The general public may not be super aware of Phoenix (" the bad guy from Gladiator" or " the guy from Walk The Line") but he's very well known to people in Hollywood, for better or for worse.

I really thought DDL would be splitting these critics awards more with Joaquin..

I didn't know Joaquin is River's brother, and at least the people I know think of him as that guy from Walk the Line than that guy who was on, what, news shows and talk shows that most people don't watch being weird for that fake documentary?

I'd probably have to explain to most people who River even was.

Unfortunately I've had the same similar experience, at least to younger generations who have no clue about him (or have any reason to know him quite frankly honest.)

I always wondered what if River had lived. Would he end up like Depp, minus the make-up obsession?

I still don't know what to pick here.

I think that, should they have more options than Phoenix, they would totally nominate someone else over Jackman & Cooper and probably would love to do it!

Love aguillera face! Was this for real?

It's just so deep into vulgarity that a part of me wants to believe it was a planned joke

    Joaquin Phoenix is very well-known.

I'm sure there are some people who simply don't pay any attention to movies who are unaware of him. But I'm sure there are also people who have no idea who Daniel Day-Lewis is.

Phoenix is well-known enough overall that comedians got lots of mileage from making fun of his spaced-out persona.

Yes this "Joaquin Phoenix is unknown" has no sense, really.

I've been rewatching S2 of Buffy, and I was like, "Hey, it's John Hawkes!" I already knew Amy Adams was Cousin Beth before she became a 3x Oscar loser. I wonder what other actors became Oscar nominees after being on the show.

There were also some who got Oscar noms before the show (Maggie Walsh, Doc), but they had already been proven/discovered so I can't say "Look at the amazing-ness of Buffy's casting directors" for them.

My mom saw LINCOLN, didn't know who DDL was. My dad knew him, but only from LAST OF THE MOHICANS.

An Oscar nomination for Hugh Jackman's performance would be embarrassing. That shit is straight out of For Your Consideration, when the film-within-a-film actors were desperately trying to get nominated.

I think I have to predict Phoenix over him out of principle, even if Jackman gets the BAFTA nom. I just can't believe enough voters would take this performance seriously. Phoenix has to be getting more high-ranked votes. He just has to be.

His film is "crazy" though and so is he. I don't think voters will embrace him or it. If i'm wrong you can quote me.
