    2. Lawrence
    3. Chastain
    4. Cotillard
    5. Dench/ Mirren/ or Wallis
Again, i'm not concerned that she will be forgotten. Her film is a best picture contender, and among most critics top 10 lists so most members will have seen it. The knock against her at this point is age.

Riva obviously is lacking the built in advantages of being a famous Hollywood legend - I think we all know that. I was merely addressing those who keep saying things like, "Have you seen Amour?!? No way the Academy is going to watch that" and pointing out that the Academy has watched and nominated difficult movies before.

In the end, I would not be surprised to see her not get in or even Marion to miss. But they both are in the thick of it.
Marion is truly in the thick of it. Riva is more on the outside looking in. Missing Globe and SAG really hurts her. I put Wallis, Weisz and Mirren all ahead of her right now.

Don't underestimate the Brit love for Helen Mirren. She is adored over here!
Not adored enough to get nominated for The Last Station. As for Weisz her film didn't get any love for BAFTA last year, but perhaps the BAFTA members within AMPAS will see it this time around since they received screeners and she's received far more support in the US awards?

Yeah, J. Law should be solid for the win, especially if/when she hits the publicity circuit. She is a charisma magnet.

This will be a perfect counter to Anne's rehearsed speeches. I'm all for this.

    Switching to Team J.Law now.

Away From Her doesn't have a dire end, I would even say the ending was a bit uplifting. The film was also in English and as someone else mentioned Christie is a legend. A better example would be Breaking the Waves, but Watson had a very showy performance if I recall and who else would they have nominated; Madonna for Evita?

1996 was an amazing year for Best Actress, don't make it sound like shit for them cause it wasn't - strongest year after '93 most likely.

    Debbie Reynolds - Mother
    Winona Ryder - The Crucible
    Gweneth Paltrow - Emma
Nicole Kidman - The Portrait of a Lady
    Meryl Streep - Marvin's Room
Courtney Love - The People vs. Larry Flynt
Gena Rowlands - Unhook the Stars

And LOL I think Away from Her was one of the coldest, most dour and downbeat films I've ever seen. That's your idea of uplifting?

It's not like she has been around very long...

Anyway, I think her Winter's Bone performance was superb and deserving of that nomination. Haven't gotten around to watching Silver Linings Playbook yet, but it's obvious she will win.

Love was supporting, she won Boston, New York, Florida and was runner-up at LAFCA in that category. Ryder was overshadowed by her co-stars she couldn't even get a Globe nomination and neither did Paltrow despite being in a comedy. As for Streep the industry clearly preferred Keaton as evident by her SAG and Oscar nomination. I haven't seen the other films, so I won't comment.
