The airport ending was so cliched - in fact, whenever Affleck strayed from real events he fell right into Hollywood cliche. While sticking close to the real story wasn't required, it would have been advisable if he couldn't come up with something better and more interesting.

I wish that was the Oscar Original Screenplay lineup.

No, I totally get that criticism. I just didn't mind it, I even liked it.

I didn't mind the airport ending at all though. It's not a documentary, it's a movie and I don't generally mind artistic license to make a story more cinematic.
I agree. I don't have any issue's with Argo. It's well-made, entertaining and ultimately unoffensive. Does it deserve to win awards? Not really, but I don't have anything against it.

I didn't love it, but I do think it's a very good film. It's still in my top 3, though it will likely change once I see more of the contenders?

I don't know about critic awards, but the film isn't eligible for Oscar since it was released more than 2 years ago, perhaps the Globes have similar rules?

Once you see Holy Motors in Best Picture, you know Lavant is inevitable. However, could Edith Scob please get one mention in that awful, awful category? And no screenplay mention? But hey, at least Carax gets a director spot for once.

Cloud Atlas + Cosmopolis in adapted screenplay is funny.

FYC Oscar consideration, Miss Sally Field, as Mary Todd Lincoln

I liked but didn't love Argo, but I don't get how it's so hated that its presence on the list invalidates all other choices?

    (Although Arkin's nod kinda does)

Yeah when you nominate something like Holy Motors in the top two categories I can take you pretty seriously even if you nominate films I disagree with.

It kinda reminds me of how AD reacted every time The Town showed up somewhere!

Exactly. They nominated both Holy Motors and Argo. They clearly have a wide and varied taste. I don't know why some people have to be dicks about it.

    Argo isn't even bad?

Maybe he'll run for Senate and find his true calling. Then AD will love him.

I'm pretty sure AD has always hated Ben Affleck no matter what he does. It's not particularly rational, but whatever.

A lot of us liked him in Hollywoodland.
But since when has he been a misunderstood American treasure? LOL.
