    Scenes of the Year 2012

Just like it says on the title, what were your favorite scenes of all the movies of the year 2012. Here are some of my favorites in no particular order:

    - The first processing scene (The Master)
    - The diner scene (Looper)
    - "There once was a hushpuppy..." (Beasts of the Southern Wild)
    - Billy's ending of the movie (Seven Psychopaths)
    - The vote (Lincoln)
    - The raid on Abbotabad (Zero Dark Thirty, which I just came back from seeing)
    - Riddles in the Dark (The Hobbit)

Samantha Morton's entire scene in Cosmopolis, especially the constant "I understand none of this".

    Chunhyang (2000) **1/2
Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) **
    Valhalla Rising (2009) ***1/2
    Young Adult (2011) *
    How I Ended This Summer (2010) *1/2

This year, I was alternately tickled, thrilled and exhilarated by sequences in The Master (processing, "pick a point"), To the Wonder (the last shot), Tabu ("Baby, I Love You"), In Another Country (to the lighthouse), Vamps (Times Square finale), Cosmopolis (Paul Giamatti), Beyond the Hills ( the exorcism ), Passion (the operatic denoument) and Holy Motors (everything).

But I just watched Laurence Anyways again, and while it might not be the BEST new film I saw this year, boy did it contain some of the most vivid and memorable cinematic moments. I'll spoiler-tag these clips; better not to watch them if you haven't seen the film.

    Looper montage:

    Best climax of the year!

    No pics:

Lincoln arguing with Mary in the bedroom.

Lincoln talking with Grant. ("Each of us has made it possible for the other to do terrible things.")

Lincoln telling the Ethan Allen story.

    Prometheus abortion scene.

Mad Dog fight in The Raid.

    Opening of Bernie

    End of Watch's ending.

Still have a lot of stuff to see this year too.

#1. Ellen Page's monologue. (To Rome with Love)

    The rest:

"He's lying... I find that very attractive." (Damsels in Distress)

A brief, maybe one-minute scene in a kitchen where characters discuss artichokes. (Damsels in Distress)

Any time Mary Todd has a serious white girl problem. (Lincoln)

The opening sequence. (The Deep Blue Sea)

Dinner with the mother-in-law. (The Deep Blue Sea)

Jiro returns to his hometown and remembers a speech he delivered at a school. (Jiro Dreams of Sushi)

Busting through the window to see the girl. (The Master)

Any mention of the "true true"/the entire unintentionally hilarious pidgin sequence. (Cloud Atlas)

    Bernie's trial. (Bernie)

The rendezvous with Kylie Minogue. (Holy Motors)

I know I've got a big ego, I really don't know why it's such a big deal, though.

    01. Prison sex scene (The Paperboy)

This is, at least, the most memorable scene of the year.

So we all basically found all of Looper memorable, right? XD

    But anyways:

    Looper - Paul Dano's evisceration.
    Wreck-It Ralph - Ralph destroying Vanellope's car.

Holy Motors - The whole movie is chock full of memorable scenes but Lavant as the beast with Eva Mendes as the American model in the sewers stood out.

I think I've said it before somewhere here, but that scene is better than most whole films this year.
