I rewatched The Silence Of The Lambs a few days ago (in sorta prep for Zero Dark Thirty) and I loved it. I love what Hopkins brings to his role, I love what Foster does hers, I love that despite its pulp nature, Demme gives it a timeless look, almost modernly noir, as well as builds the suspense and characters the way he does. I only have little criticisms for what he does, and virtually no criticisms for what the actors do, so there you have the heart, the soul and the artistry all in tact. That, for me, is a great picture. I almost started a thread in the criticism section for it, but I was too lazy to do so, but I now love that film, even if it hasn't much of anything to say.

Tyler's Top Ten Best Picture Winners: (of 61 seen)
    01. The Godfather (1972)
    02. No Country For Old Men (2007)
    03. The Lost Weekend (1945)
    04. Annie Hall (1977)
    05. All Quiet On The Western Front (1930)
    06. The Apartment (1960)
    07. The Silence Of The Lambs (1991)
    08. Hamlet (1948)
    09. The Godfather, Part II (1974)
    10. Marty (1955)

Other (9/10s): It Happened One Night, Rebecca, All About Eve, A Man For All Seasons, The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King and Midnight Cowboy. I also really like The Great Ziegfeld, Ordinary People, Casablanca, On The Waterfront and Amadeus. The worst? Terms Of Endearment, maybe? There are some movies I really don't like, and I don't know what the point of that one was, but the Academy virtually never picks a film I despite as its winner. They're mostly good films, some of them masterpieces, so you know, go AMPAS! (Don't pick Lincoln!)

    From oldest to youngest.

    It Happened One Night
    Gone With the Wind
    Casablanca
    All About Eve
    My Fair Lady ( )
    Kramer vs. Kramer
    Rain Man
    Silence of the Lambs
    Shakespeare in Love
    The Hurt Locker

A fairly eclectic group, which is a good thing I think. A big gap in the 50s-60s area mostly because I still need to see many of those winners (also because the winners I did see were bad).

    Will Oscar have Riva Fever?
