Ok, so last night I saw Sparkle and I have to ask...how the FUCK is Carmen Ejogo being snubbed by awards dedicated to Black Performances? I mean, these people saw Sparkle and still went with that little girl from The Hunger Games and Naomi Harris (who is talented by does jack shit in Skyfall)?

I thought she was incredible. I was surprised. For a film with such cliched and underwritten characters, she burst to life with so much backstory behind those eyes. With all the 'star is born' notices she was getting upon the film's release, I'm shocked she was so quickly forgotten by the black community.

Agree that the Ejogo snub is weird (haven't seen the performance, but I read many of the reviews, and they were generally quite amazing for Ejogo). The Hunger Games girl didn't do anything of note that I can remember, but I actually thought Naomi Harris was very impressive in Skyfall (I have her 4th behind Bardem, Dench and Craig and ahead of Fiennes and Whishaw). Her interactions and chemistry with Craig sizzled, and she helped lighten the mood of the film with her natural charm (Craig does the badass thing well, but he always comes off so dour and miserable as Bond). Plus, she's the hottest version of Miss Monepenny to date. She also made that other "Bond girl" (Bardem's concubine) seem utterly forgettable and lacking in acting skills.

On another note, looking at this list of nominations suggests it's been quite a strong year for black performers. Best Actor looks pretty respectable, and at least 3 of the supporting actor nominees had reviews and films that if this year wasn't so stacked, would see them in the Oscar race. Some years, you'll see awards like this and 60% of the nominees will come from a Tyler Perry film, so you know it's been a bad year for black performers in film

Speaking of Perry, thank goodness they snubbed him for Alex Cross.

Sister was the true star of the movie. She was really great and was trying so hard to save this mess of a film. Whitney was sooooo bad, but I loved every minute of it. The big dinner scene was amazing. I was dying.

Ejogo really should be remembered for her very memorable Supporting Performance.

I'm glad Mike Epps got in here!

Will you join the Geography Club?

The Epps nomination stings because he created such a skelatal stereotype. The fact that they would embrace him and snub Ejogo, who was the only fully fleshed out character, is kind of gross.

It saddens me that the only place Naomie Harris gets noticed is this ghetto awards. For my money, she was better than Dench/Bardem and best in show in Skyfall.
