just so long as he gets nominated, that's fine with me...
Seriously, though. Greengrass is great and I am certainly looking forward to Captain Philips.
But John Lee Hancock has only made FOUR films. That's not enough for a batting average. We shouldn't be counting him as a bad director just because he "made" The Blind Side. They say the script is "amazing". If you're not going to make an auteurist, director-driven film but more of a performance & script-based film, a great script is 50% of the work done in my opinion. Plus hanks and thompson, who can work wonders with the right material...
But as always, we'll have to wait and see. The only thing that gives me pause is the December 20 release date. That shows limited confidence from the studio (but then again, ZD30 and Django were both very late releases this year...). If it goes around the festival circuit, I'll be more hopeful. Hopefully it's 2013's Moneyball and not Hitchcock or Hyde Park on Hudson.
Ang Lee - The only 2x Bafta/DGA/Oscar-Winning Director!
Meryl on Oscars: Y’see these little babies? These are my best f***ing friends
and they never let me down. Try to get ‘em away from me and I’ll eat you alive.
Giosling for either Only God Forgives or Place Beyond the Pines.![]()
no George Clooney for 'Gravity'?
If Clooney gets in next year it'll be for The Monuments Men.
I think Clooney is supporting in Gravity anyway.
If there's anyone I'm pulling for to break out of Sundance here, it would be Michael B. Jordan for Fruitvale. It's a really baity role, he's playing this guy:

I have another suggestion.
If this film can overcome its pre-awards season release date then I suggest FYC:
James McAvoy for Danny Boyle's upcoming film 'Trance' (with a potential Supporting Actor nom for Vincent Cassel).
