I doubt 3-time Academy Award winner Day-Lewis will do this. He's not Glenn Close.

He would never lol. And his wife is rich, it's not like he needs the money.

If he wants to EGOT he'll do an HBO miniseries like Winslet not slumming on NBC.

He doesn't even need to to do a HBO miniseries. He can just gueststar on Downton Abbey or something, and the Emmy for guest actor in drama series will be his.

The problem with this plan is that, even if NBC were to successfully lure Daniel Day-Lewis with a massive paycheck into doing this project, it doesn't necessary mean that investment would be wise or that a similarly massive audience would follow. As talented as an actor as he is, he doesn't exactly send people running to the box office...
You can do it, Naomi! You're...
ONLY 10 EASY STEPS AWAY FROM OSCAR!

1.) Bankrupt small, independent distributor via massive Oscar campaign. Failing that, proceed to...
2.) Cash in King Kong residual checks to pay for FYC advertisements from Kinko's.
3.) To avoid getting sent straight to VOD, attach entire film as a "trailer" to another film people actually want to see. And then...
4.) Try to do it Lahti-style and win Academy Award for Best Short Film.
5.) Avoid telling a story that everyone already knows by adding exciting details and/or gratuitous editing.
    6. Carefully and patiently weather the wrath of film critics/the royal family/the tabloids/Diana-maniacs for trying to add said details. (Good luck!)
    7. Find all of the boxes with "August: Osage County" screeners and slip in self-made cam bootleg from premiere screening at Lowes...the hardware store.
(Not Loews, the movie theater -- too expensive!)
    8. Trick octogenarian Oscar voters into thinking that you are, in fact, a real princess. (Hey, it worked on Eva Marie Saint!)
    9. On Oscar night, have camera crews come to Nicole's house, Joan Crawford-style, so you can win and keep your day job.
    10. OSCAR!

Yeah, keep dreaming NBC! You are lucky if you can get Ian McShane to do it.

NBC passed on 'Downton Abbey' two years ago believing US audiences didn't want period dramas
Does Downton Abbey get the kind of ratings that NBC would like? Especially since I imagine this show will be rather expensive even without Day-Lewis.

Dowton gets 10 million viewers per episode in the UK.

What about its PBS ratings? I don't think many cable shows get the kind of ratings that networks would want.

I notice that the article does not say the nature of the deal that NBC is offering to Day-Lewis.

I'm out of the loop. How much money would be considered extremely high for TV?

Ashton Kutcher was the highest-paid actor on TV last year. He made about $1 million an episode. However, I think Sheen was making $1.8 million before he had his meltdown.

Anybody else remember when supposedly Silver/Ritchie/RDJ all tried and failed to get him to play Moriarty in the SHERLOCK HOLMES sequel? He turned down (if he actually was offered it) surely a big paycheck that most actors wouldn't have turned down.

So good for him that he can do any project he wants and not have to do a Marvel movie to pay the dental bill.

    Television?

Daniel Day-Lewis is not Jessica Lange. Or even Glenn Close.

That's gross ... and probably a reason why TV will never be as respected as Film (even if mainstream TV has been telling better quality stories these days). When the highest paid actor is Ashton Kutcher

Apparently last season it ranged from 4 point something to 5 point something million viewers. On NBC: Revolution's finale got 8.5, Parenthood gets almost 5 million.

So not huge. Of course one COULD argue that if it were on NBC the ratings would be higher than on PBS, but we can't know that for sure.
