I agree, that is definently a very large possibilty. I won't predict it now but good call Dooby.

So outside of Amour, what are people thinking at the moment?
Is The Master out? Does Best Exotic Marigold Hotel have a chance? Will Beasts get in? Is Django 7?

I'm sticking with Moonrise Kingdom. Although it'll probably only get a Screenplay nod.

Although its a possibility I don't think Looper is necessairly going to happen in Sound. Too many strong contenders this year (most of which are BP contenders).

    Ooo. Didn't think of that.

    That could definitely happen.

Moonrise is a possibility in Production Design, I think?

Looper in Screenplay received the kiss of Death when it won the NBR

I think people really overstate the whole NBR/Original Screenplay curse thing. Yes, the last three haven't gotten nominations but many have and some have even won the Oscar. Plus, Looper is not a small indie like the last three films that have won at NBR and gotten snubbed at the Oscars.

I'd say so, especially considering that category isn't particularly jam packed. I hope it gets it

Sure, the last two weren't nominated. Before that?Five of the last seven including the winners Juno and Eternal Sunshine. The kiss of death?Hardly.

Looper has won 6 awards so far, plus was nominated by 4 others including Chicago and BFCA.

The last 3 sci-fi films that were praised for it's screenplay were all nominated (Inception,District 9 and Children Of Men)I don't understand where that misconception that sci-fi/genre films can't be nominated for screenplay comes from when it's that particular category that always nominates genre fare whether comedy, animation or sci-fi even when it's obvious they can't get nominated for best picture.

    To mention some:In the Loop,In Bruges,Bridesmaids,7 Pixar films,Shrek,Pan's Labyrinth,the aforementioned sci-fi above,etc...

It's a perfect example of a very smart, genre film with terrific reviews (84 MC,94% RT) that usually gets in for it's screenplay.

and 1.5 million for SLP in 745 theaters, looks like the film is not catching on as most people expected. As for Les Mis we need to wait and see how it does in the coming days, some films open really well due to the fanbase flocking to see a film on the first week.

They have totally screwed up that release, it should have been out in 745 weeks ago with a full on wide release coming nomination week. People who know I follow movies have asked me why they can't find it anywhere.

Eh. It's been out for over a month in half of those theaters, and with that number it would probably be on track for a $5+ million weekend (Plus even more from Tue-Thu), which would be pretty excellent for it. It's not going to be a $100+ million blockbuster, but it could still finish in the Up in the Air/Descendants range of $75-85 million.

I know, I'm not taking seriously those stats regarding NBR winner in Best Original Screenplay last three years. I'm still predicting it.

Except... Looper is no Inception or Children of Men. Don't mention that film in the same breath as the other two, if you please.

It's not about personal taste,it's about the type of reception and reviews the films have.

In any case,in my opinion Inception's script was inferior to Looper's,which is a lot richer, complex and ambiguous.Inception had a pretty simple script made bombastic with great editing, cinematography, sets and directing.Nolan is a master of making a simple story seem like War and Peace.Whether that's a good thing, depends if you're his fan or not.

Looper has a very thick story which seems smaller because of the intimate setting.

This. I'm a fan of Christopher Nolan and I actually consider your post a compliment to him. Looper screenplay is much better than Inception's and I feel Writers branch is going to embrace it.

I'm a big Nolan fan, bu Looper has a much better screenplay than Inception.
