I'd have to double check a list of movies released in 2009, but I'd probably put The Hangover on my list as well.

    Well, that's not surprising.

TV side: Girls bumps Community or Parks. Ugh. Apparently the ONLY network show to watch is Modern Family...
Walking Dead bumps Boardwalk Empire. Nice.

Ang Lee - The only 2x Bafta/DGA/Oscar-Winning Director!
Meryl on Oscars: Y’see these little babies? These are my best f***ing friends
and they never let me down. Try to get ‘em away from me and I’ll eat you alive.

I'm sure The Master will make into the BFCA top ten (although they did give it an 81). But, it's also the type of film that can bomb with the precursor's and still get major Oscar nominations.

You guys talk about it as if its a bad movie? I mean seriously. Does a movie have to be a tearjerker or one that pulls at the heart strings to be a good movie? I'd say The Hangover is one of the 10 best comedies of the past decade. That and Superbad are the two that immediately come to mind.

Yikes for The Master. Even A Serious Man managed to make the AFI list on its way to the Oscar nod.

It IS a bad movie. Just because it made $250M doesn't make it good. It's stupid and sloppy and mostly unfunny. But, that's my opinion and I'm not forcing you to subscribe to it. My comment was that it was unsurprising that you would like it.

LOL, The Hangover is stupid...but it's also hilarious

But, it doesn't deserve to be in a top ten list of best films of any given year.

Beasts scoring here and at NBR is a pretty excellent sign. The Master missing both is......not.

Great. Now who's going to watch Sunday Rose on SAG night??

Well ok, but sometimes I feel like making $250M might be a deterrent to liking a good film.

sideline to original post: Now I'm trying to think of what the best comedies of the past 10 years are, other than those two. The short list I could come up with includes: Knocked Up, Christmas With The Kranks, Fun With Dick and Jane, and The Devil Wears Prada.

Well, if AFI makes a comedy list, I'd be interested in hearing what they include. Those are the big ones, so I'm sure even they'd include at least a couple of them. Especially Knocked Up, I thought that was pretty much universally praised.

I think the only two comedies from the decade (2000 - 2012, to make things easier) I could rank as all-time classic-worthy would be Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Zoolander. And I enjoyed The Hangover all right.

Knocked Up, yes. Even The Devil Wears Prada is mostly ok (when it's campy). But do you expect to be taken seriously when you list Christmas with the Kranks as on the ten best comedies of the decade? Really?

Christmas with the Kranks is abominable, yeah. As is Fun With Dick and Jane. Being the only person on this board who unabashedly loathes The Devil Wears Prada and its completely backwards, mean-spirited, absolutely disgusting human behavior passing as "comedy", I don't think I'm the best person to give judgment there.

Listing the best movie comedies of the past decade against the best TV comedies of the same period makes film look really bad.

I think that pitting American film vs. American television over the past five years makes film look fairly bad in comparison overall actually.

Well ok, I know the subject of comedy is a divisive one on a film forum. But for the record, I didn't enjoy Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and if we were to go all the way back to 2000 (I was just doing the past 10 years; 2002-2012) I'd also include Meet The Parents.

I'm sorry, but anyone who considers Christmas with the Kranks even remotely funny should be banned.
