Those could be my Oscar predictions.

    This is so underwhelming.

    This isn't 2009. They don't need Mirren.

I have a scary feeling that Mirren is getting in over Riva, all these different factors against her: age, foreign, no campaign, members don't like Amour. If she gets a SAG nom, i'll be more comfortable.

Lmao, these are pretty horrible. Critic groups like these are so superfluous.

    WAFCA's stats on Best Actress:

For the five years that they've named Best Actress nominees, they've always correctly predicted either 3 or 4 (never all 5) of the eventual Oscar nominees.

WAFCA's previous Best Actress nominees under spoiler tag:
    2011 (3/5)
    Davis *
    Olsen
    Streep *
    Swinton
    Williams *

    2010 (4/5)
    Bening *
    Hathaway
    Lawrence *
    Kidman *
    Portman *

    2009 (4/5)
    Bullock *
    Mulligan *
    Rudolph
    Sidibe *
    Streep *

    2005 (4/5)
    Allen
    Huffman *
    Knightley *
    Theron *
    Witherspoon *

    2003 (3/5)
    Blanchett
    Castle-Hughes *
    Keaton *
    Watts *
    Wood

    Their nominees this year:

    Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty)
    Marion Cotillard (Rust and Bone)
    Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook)
    Helen Mirren (Hitchcock)
    Emmanuelle Riva (Amour)

We know Chastain and Lawrence are happening. At least one of Cotillard, Mirren, and Riva are happening, too. Maybe two. Wallis will probably swap in.

Toss out both Mirren and Riva. Put in Wallis and Watts. Or Dench.

Riva is definitely the odd one out. The rest could happen.

I kinda disagree with this--in many cases, nominations are an opportunity for critics' groups to show something about what makes them distinctive. But on the other hand, if your nominees are just going to be Oscar predictions, why bother? Like..these really are terrible. Critics in DC may not get as much exposure to non-Oscar-campaigned movies as in NY/LA (or Chicago/SF), but it's not that bad of a town for movies--there's really no reason to resort to nominating, like, The Intouchables in foreign film.

Not at all. I mean, DC still gets basically everything. Most films have to reach about 9 or 10 screens nationally to make their way to the DC market. So, yeah. Everything.

    Dame Leo says,

Is Javier Bardem really going to be nominated?? I hope so! And that siggie with him and Daniel Craig above staring each other down makes me feel weak kneed everytime I lay eyes on it!

And what must I do to sabotage Alan Arkin? Come on. He was fine. Nothing more. Your gonna deprive a DeNiro comeback, McConaughey career resurgence, and LA Redmayne for that? Please no!

And to think I was doubting the Leo. He is definitely the Unchained guy being nominated and maybe the winner!

Poor Ann Dowd LOL. Poor thing! Bad day for her, LA Hathaway wins the prestigious Boston Online award and now a snub her by DC! She better hope the actors actors come through for her to bump out Barks or Adams lol.

Yeah. Mirren is happening. They will nominate her for anything. I am hoping that all these Anna Karenia mentions on top ten lists drags Dame KNIGHTLEY into the filler slot but they can't resist than DAMN Helen Mirren!

Cooper out here. If he gets in I think it will be at Hawkes expense.

This is why Julianne Moore has never won an Oscar

So they nominated Les Miz for best film over The Master, Django, Life of PI and Moonrise Kingdom? Very weird.

Am I the only one bothered that "The Master" was nominated in EVERY major category except for Picture, with it's spot going to "Silver Linings Playbook"?

    * I know it should be "Les Mis," but since O' Russell in Directing, Cooper and De Niro missed out, it seems like "Silver Linings Playbook" would be the black sheep in this instance.

At this point, I suppose Watts is totally out. None of the awards so far nominated her, not even Satellite Award, which has 7 nominees for their best actress. I won't be suprise at all if she as well as the film miss everything all the way till the awards season is over.
