That's funny for me only because I finally got around to watching the DW serial "The Android Invasion." Yes emerge from pods, carry freshly minted coins, and then SING your way to world domination.

I actually think Dreamgirls really would have benefitted from the live singing gimmick.....especially Jennifer Hudson.

Great. Now who's going to watch Sunday Rose on SAG night??

The album is literally only highlights from the film. "In My Life" and "At the End of the Day" in particular are both axed in parts, unlike in the film.

In one of his interviews Redmayne said that Hooper et al. wanted the cast's faces to look "natural" while they were singing, so they all had to learn not to "contort" their faces or to have any other mannerisms while singing, so I'm sure having to keep their eyes open was part of that regime. (As an aside on this subject, when Andrew Rannells performed "I Believe" from "The Book of Mormon" at the Tonys, he licked his lips a lot--it almost looks reptilian.)

Oh hey, Rachel and Kurt are doing a Les Miz song in February on Glee. Rachel already did the 2 most famous songs...I'm guessing/hoping for A Little Fall of Rain. She's had practice with it (in the Hollywood Bowl).

The show is terrible, but I still watch at least Rachel's performances and I loved the pair's renditions of For Good and Defying Gravity.

    I think people are forgetting:

    Metacritic -

    Anna Karenina > Les Misérables

LOL. In particular if this happens to be a box office hit and, let's say, for example, that it manages to score an upset and wins the SAG ensemble over a prohibitive favorite like Lincoln...then they should really be afraid...lol

LOL, I hope it doesn't win, imagine the backlash, it's easier to defend the poor movie that was unfairly maligned and lost! BUt I'm afraid it's still in the realm of the possible. Like, it can still win ensemble at SAG, the Globe and the BAFTA. I don't think it will, but it's certainly not a crazy possibility.

Also, the Dirk-fueled Metacritic boycott is amazing. First it was very careful to upload the pans and not the positive ones, exposing its yellow metascore in the home page for weeks, and the second it enetered green territory, they removed it from the home page despite the fact that it's the biggest opener of these days, so that people still think it's yellow.

I'm pretty sure they're being paid by a competing studio.

So I've been listening to the Highlights soundtrack all weekend and I have to say, I don't see the issues with the singing like at all. It is very obvious they were going for a more realistic approach to the singing and not all pretty and theatrical. I mean, you can hear the sucking of snot as Hathaway belts out I Dreamed a Dream, and it works. Crowe doesn't sound bad, like at all He doesn't sound like a broadway star, no, but he's entirely in tune and sounds like an everyman singing, which is more than fine for a film adaptation. The comparison's to Brosnan are hilariously ridiculous. Crowe can sing. Sure, he's not what people expected, but I think certain expectations were unfairly high (even McTeagues)...THIS IS NOT A BROADWAY PRODUCTION! This is a film, and a more realistic approach is needed. The singing can be effected as much. Jackman's talk/sing approach works because you can feel the performance through the lyrics. He sells every word. I thought his take on Bring Him Home was god fucking awful though. That aside, I'm impressed across the board. Redmayne's take on Empty Chairs at Empty Tables made me weep in my car last night.

Crowe hits the notes and is in tune. But he isn't able to act with his voice at all or make the songs an extension of his take on the character. In Crowe's version of "Stars", there is no hint of Javert's seething anger at Valjean or of Javert's determination to put Valjean behind bars--given Crowe's completely bland delivery of the song, he just as well be singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star".

Although I find his voice to be a little nasal for my taste, I think Redmanye does a fine job--he can certainly act with his voice while singing. But he could never sing Marius on the stage.

I'll be intrigued to see the audience reaction to this.

I saw it at an ordinary suburban cinema, with a packed audience of varied demographics. I've never heard an audience applaud a film in Australia. This is totally an audience film.

Oh Lord Jesus, Anne Hathaway's winning an oscah
