They certainly weren't the only people that thought Centipede Hz was![]()
Way to go Bat for Lashes and I don't get the #1 either at all.
On Pitchfork's critics lists, Frank Ocean has 10 no.1 mentions and Kendrick Lamar 4. Even Fiona Apple as more no.1 mentions. Weird placement, really.
I love that Chromatics made Pitchfork's Top 10.
It's probably my third favorite after Fiona and Frank Ocean.
It's so weird for me to see Pitchfork and the rest of the blogosphere so eagerly embrace my favorite band, after years and years of basically ignoring (maybe "undervaluing" is a better word) Gira and his output. Like, I'm happy they're is getting all this recognition (and sales!), but I still have that stupid holier-than-thou urge to run around saying, "I told you so! I've been a devotee since before you even knew who Swans was!" I guess I'm just an asshole, LOL.
Am I the only person in the world who really did not care for that Fiona Apple album??![]()
Great. Now who's going to watch Sunday Rose on SAG night??
I'm getting around everywhere with this magazine today!

Any Worst Of list without Scream and Shout on it is objectively wrong.
Pitchfork cited Beez in the Trap as one of the best tracks of the year, Largo!
I still maintain that her pop is dire, but her rap is sharp, creative, and singular.
Yeah, she did try to do waaaay too much on Roman Reloaded, but it wasn't an out-and-out disaster, and even some of her pop (Pound the Alarm and Starships) was miles better than the dreck people are putting on their singles lists (Call Me Maybe?! CALL ME FUCKING MAYBE?!)
Call Me Maybe is wonderful. Come on.
Nicki is so perplexing. I want to like her, but I mostly hate her. But when she's great, she's really great. She seems very lost, though.
I find it hard to complain about "Call Me Maybe" in a year where the other big viral hit was fucking "Gangnam Style".
"This is not your daddy's HBO version of Mandela," said Weinstein. "This is the kickass version of Mandela."
Call Me Maybe does not, is not, cannot be #1 song of this 2012. Come on? Like how? Yes, it might be popular but not the best song. It was not even catchy. On the other hand, I despise Drive By with every atom of my being so that make sense.
Glad to see Killer Mike on a few of these lists. That is a criminally underrated album. Still don't get how Nas Life Is Good didn't make Pitchfork's 50. It has an 8.3 rating by that site but couldn't make it in the top 50. Weird.
