This category is such a mess I'm only confident in Jones and Hoffman at the moment; hopefully SAG and GG help resolve it.
Yeah I totally think Leo can and will miss SAG, and he will still be nominated for Oscar and maybe even win. If MGH could do it then the biggest Hollwyood star with three prvious nods and already rewarded competitors can. But he needs to win the globe, that's for sure (not that he won't, I'm pretty sure he will).
More like LOL DeNiro, but let's not get into that again...LOL, McConaughey?
Again Marcia Gay Harden was in a race without a frontrunner and no one wanted to award Kate Hudson. If TLJ wins the BFCA, BAFTA and especially SAG like he most likely will and Lincoln wins Best Picture (like it can), then it doesn't matter what happens at the GG at all.
2000's Kate Hudson is not the same as 2012's Kate Hudson. I fail to see how being an unknown "woman of an age" (thanks, Sally, I really like you!) against a promising, pretty starlet that happens to be Hollywood royalty and was in the likely sixth contender for BP is something to laugh at. I think it's easier to beat an already rewarded veteran than an upcoming starlet with everything in her favour.
Let's remember that TLJ isn't some sort of steamroll. So far, he has failed to win anywhere big, while Leo hasn't. If TLJ was sweeping I'd agree, but he's very far from it.
