Jeff Wells wrote this on his blog:
Today I turned in my Broadcast Film Critics vote just before the noon deadline, and top three selections were (in this order) Robert De Niro (Silver Linings Playbook), Tommy Lee Jones (Lincoln) and Nate Parker (Arbitrage).

Maybe some hope for De Niro

I agree. Being a runner-up is nice an all, but not actually being able to win anything doesn't really give me that much confidence in him. DiCaprio has actually proven than he can win something and that'll be enough for Harvey to stuck with him, especially considering that he's been his pet project from the get-go.

LOL, the San Diego critics just nominated Waltz but not DiCaprio.

I didn't even realize that lol. I still think it's Leo, but maybe they both get BFCA nominations on Tuesday. But will Harvey really get four people into a six person category there?

How much did the script change? Schultz is a good character, but nothing award worthy.

You know, I'm kind of starting to feel like both DiCaprio and Waltz get in (the latter over De Niro), and that Tommy Lee Jones will win?

I've been thinking that this race was between Jones and Leo for a while, but Jesus. This confusion is only going to help Jones in the end.

    :kneejerk:

Ugh, this race is such a mess.

DeNiro was teetering for me, but Jeffrey Wells putting him on his freaking BFCA ballot gave me pause.

To be fair, Wells is obsessed with SLP to the point that it's a bit scary. Like, Sasha Stone not liking the film is one of the reasons they don't do a podcast together anymore.

Sasha is a bit crazy and scary, too.
I think both are pretty childish, but entertaining.

I love/hate this category. And if Arkin slips in for a role he can do in his sleep amongst all these strong contenders, it's going to suck.

I just realized something: SAG ballots are due tomorrow, and voters can only nominate an actor in whatever category they are pushed... so I'm pretty sure Waltz can only be nominated in Lead. I wonder when exactly Harvey moved him to Supporting?

EDIT. SAG ballots were mailed out on November 21st, and submissions by studios and/or actors were due on October 25th.

So, yeah... Waltz will either show up in Lead or not at all.

I think I need to finally admit to myself that John Goodman is just not happening!

I thought the combo of Flight + Argo might at least have the critics biting, but nope!
    WE'RE GONNA FIGHT!

This weekend...one last chance to save Halle's career from complete oblivion. Oh, wait...

    That's a great point.

Harvey only moved Waltz to Supporting in response to his runner-up placement as NYFCC a few days ago. Certainly, that's too late to change someone's SAG placement. Plus, according to the SAG Awards calendar:

    October 25, 2012
Submissions Close (Due At SAG By 5 P.M. PT)

I would imagine that's the last date that someone can change any information about the submissions. It wouldn't really make sense that a contender's category can be switched mid-way (or, at the tail-end, in this case) through the voting period.

Well the GG can still do whatever the hell they want really as far as lead/supporting categories are concerned and the BFCA can still nominate him anywhere they want as well.
