I think Hooper is like, quickly becoming a complete non-factor here. LOL.
Ben Affleck – Argo
Paul Thomas Anderson – The Master
Kathryn Bigelow – Zero Dark Thirty
Michael Haneke – Amour
Tom Hooper – Les Misérables
Ang Lee – Life of Pi
David O. Russell – Silver Linings Playbook
Steven Spielberg – Lincoln
Quentin Tarantino – Django Unchained

I think Hooper is like, quickly becoming a complete non-factor here. LOL.
Ugh, I really want to predict Haneke because I feel like the Directors (along with the Writers) are far more likely to embrace the film than the Actors.
But I don't want to get my hopes up.
I don't care. I'm predicting Tarantino.
1. Spielberg
2. Bigelow
3. Russell
4. Affleck
5. Tarantino
blah. Lee isn't missing.
It's no flop.
"I'm a firm believer in karma, and I think this situation is a huge learning lesson for me.
To grow and expand as a spiritual human being. I want to lead a country one day for all I know".
Good.
This film is going to get raved primarily for its cast and songs, then its sets and costumes over its direction. I mean, I guess he deserves some credit for the live singing decision and for his work with the actors, but that's not gonna win an Oscar this year.

Go Ang Lee!
The concerning thing isn't necessarily the still-early score for Les Miz; it's who doesn't like it thus far - the trades. They're not the pretentious, snooty types that would hate Les Miz on sight. I mean, an average of 60 between THR/Variety? Yikes.
85 for Dreamgirls, Sweeney Todd. 80 for freaking Mamma Mia! 75 for Hairspray. 65 for Nine. 80s from Variety for Moulin/Chicago; no THR score.
Ang Lee - The only 2x Bafta/DGA/Oscar-Winning Director!
Meryl on Oscars: Y’see these little babies? These are my best f***ing friends
and they never let me down. Try to get ‘em away from me and I’ll eat you alive.
Bigelow, Spielberg, Affleck, Lee, Russell.
Alt: PTA.
Long shot: Tarantino
Out: Hooper
I'm putting Russell back in for now until the Django embargo is broken. If it's still looking like a contender after that, I'll replace Russell with QT.
So glad I made the switch from Hooper to Bigelow last month. All of a sudden from being the most crowded category I feel like we now have a space open with Pi underwhelming generally as well. Maybe Tarantino? This looks plausible:
1. Affleck
2. Bigelow
3. Spielberg
4. Russell
5. Tarantino
But I'll keep Lee in 5th for now until we get some proper Django reviews.
So far in this race, Affleck, Bigelow and Spielberg are locks. Hooper can kiss his Oscar chances 'auf wiedersehen' since (according to its 59 on Metacritic) 'Les Miserables' is not living up to our expectations. That just leaves the likes Russell, Anderson, Lee, Haneke and Tarantino to squabble amongst themselves over who is having that final spot...
Locked and loaded:
Affleck
Spielberg
Bigelow
Close to being locked:
Russell
Anything goes for the last one, though I'll say most likely it will be Lee or Tarantino
I could see Tarantino sneaking in here. Right now, Bigelow, Spielberg, and Affleck are pretty much locked. The last two spots are currently a fight between QT, PTA, Russell, and Lee.
LOL, guany, your sigs are sublime. I love the blending of Alan Arkin, Anne Hathaway, and OMGred
Thanks!
And Bigelow just won her 3rd consecutive critics award (Boston Online, lmao) as did ZDT. Jesus.
I would be predicting Bigelow and ZDT to dominate all further critics awards, but I've still got this stubborn hope that enough critics are still keeping the faith with The Master.![]()
Affleck
Bigelow
Lee
Russell
Spielberg
Tarantino
