Or Omar Sy? I know many of you are shaking their heads to this but I can easily see him sneaking in because, in difference to Riva and Cottillard, he is in a film that was very popular with audiences and has a feel-good-performance that can rally some passion behind it in order to surpass many contenders in what is right now a rather shaky looking category (besides the obvious frontrunner of course).
There's something wrong with this signature.
Can you find that ONE mistake?
I fear The Intouchables. I'm terrified.
I know I've got a big ego, I really don't know why it's such a big deal, though.
yes, it would be the most loathed nominated performance in recent history but I think the film is totally AMPAS' taste and lets not forget that this Sy was the one who beat DuJardin on homeground at the Césars just one day prior to the oscar!
also it would bring some eye-candy in this years race![]()

Joaquin Phoenix is my pick, he has been since I saw The Master. My theory is such: it's easier for DDL to recreate a character from history then it was for Phoenix to CREATE such a odd character in his film.
DDL had reference points and amazing makeup. Now, don't get me wrong I think DDL was remarkable, but Phoenix was astounding.
LOL
1) The Oscars are not about personal preference, so preferring Phoenix to Day-Lewis doesn't matter one iota, and the second that you let it, you become a worse predictor for it.
2) As far as the argument about crafting an original character versus portraying one that has already existed, I'd actually say the latter has produced more Oscar wins: just last year, both Lead and Supporting Actress wins were based on a person/character that already existed. Even Dujardin's role could perhaps be considered an offshoot of certain actual people. And just look at recent Best Actor winners: Firth (King George), Penn (Harvey Milk), Whitaker (Idi Amin), Hoffman (Truman Capote), Foxx (Ray Charles). Voters don't care whether an actor "CREATED" a new character.

I don't hate The Intouchables.
Just thought I'd throw that out there.
Its just as hard to play a character that already exists compared to 'creating!' a new one, because there is a tremendous amount of responsibility especially if its a well known figure, secondly your somewhat limited and your can't expand your creativity as much because it has to be in tune with who that individual was.
I mean, that last spot for the Comedy/Musical Globe is between Bill Murray and whoever else. I'm almost tempted to put in Omar Sy?
Granted, Murray has been nominated 3 times, so I don't know.
Or anyone, really. Richardson, a Quartet dude, Crystal, Rudd...
For the gg I'm predicting both Tatum (he's a star now, the hfpa will fuck him accordingly!) and Sy (He's been campaigning and he's one of Harvey's man).
