A couple of spoilers (just minor ones), but: http://afterthecut.com/2012/12/07/re...o-dark-thirty/

I saw my review was shared here. I wanted to register, say thanks for sharing. Also thanks for pointing out how absurd "Best Female Actress" is. I'm an idiot. Was writing the review at 2am after the screening.

After the screening Mark Boal came out and did a Q &A.

Chastain is hands down my pick for the Oscar. And even though I loved Lawrence in SLP, Chastain's work is second to none.

In my head, I am toying with the idea of the Hollywood Foreign Press nominating Rachel Weisz just so Daniel Craig shows up. Sorry Naomi!

The only locks for me are Chastain, and Lawrence.

Then there are Watts, Riva, Weisz, Wallis, big pause... Mirren, Dench, Knightley, and Cotillard.
I'm actually starting to feel the same.

Globes will be interesting because they could definitely go either way with Wallis.

I agree. I could definitely see her being left out. I mean, I'll still predict her, but it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

That is a definite possibility, i"m still predicting her just because; but i would not be surprised to see her miss.

Switch Watts for Cotillard. Watts is about 7th or 8th.

As I've said, I've had this for weeks and nothing at all has happened to make me change my mind.

I wouldn't be surprised if that happens either. But realistically, there's only one spot left at the GG. Chastain, Cotillard, Mirren and Knightley are in (although I suppose Keira can still miss). I'm not feeling Naomi or Riva there at all, so that leaves either Wallis or Weisz. I'll stick with Wallis, but Weisz would make a lot of sense as well. A lot more than Watts that's for sure.

We'll see if you're as good as you look. I think you're right though. Damn you.

What's your SAG lineup without Wallis?

The other four, plus Watts. I think SAG and BFCA are the two places that she'll make it, although I'm starting to reconsider.

Love the new sig, by the way.

I have Dench at SAG for the fifth.

Maybe. I'm just questioning if people will actually get through her film. That isn't so important at the GG because she's a beautiful, former winner with a husband who's a star, so they can vote for her without even seeing the film.

I went back through the last few Best Actress polls, and with the exception of the poll immediately preceding the current one (late November) -- in which McTeague's antics must've gotten to me and I temporarily switched Frenchwomen, from Cotillard to Riva -- I, too, have had Chastain-Cotillard-Lawrence-Mirren-Wallis since late October. I don't get why people are writing off Mirren. She's a Brit playing a famous woman with what appears to be lots of comic relief and at least one big Oscar scene. Mirren can still get in with middling reviews (yes, even a 56 on Metacritic), she'll probably have large support from the British bloc, and a Brit is nominated here 80+% of the time. Dench could happen too, but there's even less buzz for that than there is for Mirren.

If Mirren gets in, not only will I eat crow... I'll eat a stag too.

NAOMI WATTS NEARLY DROWNED WHILE FILMING THE IMPOSSIBLE.

The campaign is in full force!

Naomi Watts has revealed that she had a near-death experience during the filming of The Impossible.

The actress told Easy Living magazine that she nearly drowned when a wall of water came over her while she was strapped to a chair.

"When we were shooting in the tank, we really weren't acting," she revealed.

Watts explained: "We were anchored in these chairs as the wave machine broke over us. There was a moment when I came up for air but couldn't get out of the chair. I was already out of breath and the chair took me under again."
    She's so method. And brave.

Yeah, Helen Mirren had to kiss Anthony Hopkins... but she didn't nearly die from it!
