    The Katy Perry thread.

Her new era starts soon. May as well get this going!

She just received an award for her LGBT activism...

Is there really a Katy Perry thread here??!?!

I love that AD seems to be coming around on her, but I agree that is a horrible photo. I'm happy that she's getting recognition for her achievements and activism. If you look at her list of awards and nominations, she really doesn't receive the recognition due to her, so it's refreshing to see a photo like that (and a thread like this).

On that note, I recommend her documentary Part of Me to anyone who hasn't seen it. I know the Oscars seem to have tight rules in their documentary category, so I'm not sure if she'll get in, but its really an excellent film.

I am forever glad that the LGBT community recognizes her songs about trivializing bisexuality. [/sarcasm]

For her LGBT activism? May as well give Mike Huckabee the award while you're at it

Didn't she have a song "U R so gay"? And she is getting an award from an anti bullying charity?

I see that the naysayers are coming out in full force...

Anyway, I just wanted to comment on this comment:

She has said that she wants to lay low and not rush her next album, so I'm not quite sure that her next era will start anytime soon.

This woman here is vile. She writes evil "music". This thread is offensive. Katy Perry for a LGBT activism award? Puh-lease.

It's really not naysaying, Ben, when a woman very publicly fuels the outdated notion that your sexuality doesn't exist/is a joke, and then gets awarded for that. And then panders this notion to children by putting the trailer to her film in front of children's movies in theatres. She viscerally offends me. I want to make it clear that I am doing far, far more than naysaying her.

Yes, Katy Perry is bad for our kids and is a threat to society...

Anyway. I looked up photos for that event, and there really wasn't a good photo of her taken all night. That's not really a good look for her.

You should probably offer an actual argument sooner or later.

Howabout an actual substantive response to this:

I hope you hang yourself with your H&M scarf While jacking off listening to Mozart You bitch and moan about LA Wishing you were in the rain reading Hemingway
You don't eat meat And drive electrical cars You're so indie rock it's almost an art You need SPF 45 just to stay alive

You're so gay and you don't even like boys No, you don't even like No, you don't even like No, you don't even like boys
You're so gay and you don't even like boys No, you don't even like No, you don't even like No, you don't even like

You're so sad maybe you should buy a Happy Meal You're so skinny you should really Supersize the deal Secretly you're so amused That nobody understands you
I'm so mean 'cause I cannot get you outta your head I'm so angry 'cause you'd rather MySpace instead I can't believe I fell in love With someone that wears more makeup than me

You're so gay and you don't even like boys No, you don't even like No, you don't even like No, you don't even like boys
You're so gay and you don't even like boys No, you don't even like No, you don't even like No, you don't even like
You're so gay, you're so gay You walk around like you're oh so debonair You pull 'em down and there's really nothing there I wish you would just be real with me

You're so gay and you don't even like boys No, you don't even like No, you don't even like No, you don't even like boys
You're so gay and you don't even like boys No, you don't even like No, you don't even like Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
You're so gay and you don't even like boys No, you don't even like No, you don't even like No, you don't even like boys

I've tried many times in the past, but every single time a handful of users come out and try to hijack any thread here that gives her positive remarks. Its the same thing I've seen with Madonna for as long as I can remember. People just love to be negative. Its a waste of time to take the bait.

What bait? Quoting to you her actual lyrics that she released and made millions of dollars off of?

Did she or did she not release a song with lyrics that express regret for falling in love with a man who wears makeup? Yes or no.

Dude, we're not asking for much.

And if she'd won, like, a Grammy, I would be all, okay whatever not really my thing. But she got awarded by a group she regularly disparages. Seeing the problem here?

No. But in your defense I understand that one could look at her Christian upbringing and come to the conclusion. I mean, does anyone listen to "Single Ladies" and think Beyonce is really a single lady, knowing that she is seemingly, happily married to Jay Z? Does anyone listen to "Gang Bang" and really think Madonna is going to go out and kill her boyfriend? ? Obviously "Ur So Gay" is tongue in cheek. Or at least its obvious to me, especially considering her defense of the gay community elsewhere.

So you're, what, exactly, denying that the lyrics I just quoted to you in full exist? She did not release a song with those lyrics.

Okay. I see this conversation will be fruitful.
