    Monty Python

And now for something completely different.

Pick your favorite of the immortal comedy troupe's movies. Your vote is like One Holy Grail, One Holy Handgrenade, a Blessed Cheesemaker, and just as precious as every Sperm.

(I won't vote for it probably, but you know I rewatched THE MEANING OF LIFE sometime back and for all the crap that movie gets, its actually pretty damn good. Only damned because it wasn't as good as HOLY GRAIL or LIFE OF BRIAN. In a way I remember once comparing Monty Python to the Beatles, and really MOL reminds me of LET IT BE. Ignore that it came after triumph after triumph like the White Album and SGT. PEPPER and ABBEY ROAD and so forth, its still a quite terrific album on its own merits. In that way I believe the same for MOL.)

I'm voting for LIFE OF BRIAN. Funny yes, but also quite intelligent in the way it portrayed that part of history in that part of the world. And really with the religious assholes out there and unfortunately going to be around somewhere, this is such a great anecdote for ignorance and hate based off nonsense. So thanks Geroge Harrison for funding it with your house.

I say you are Lord, and I should know. I've followed a few.

I'll likely be the only voter for Meaning Of Life. All I have to say is, it makes me laugh more than all the others.

Something about Holy Grail sticks with me in a way that Life of Brian/Meaning of Life doesn't. I do like the Hollywood Bowl film, but definitely not as much as Holy Grail.

I haven't seen the Hollywood Bowl flick, but all the others are great fun. I went with Holy Grail because there's just soooo much to love and it's so consistently hilarious, from the riddle to the holy hand grenade to the bunny to the animator croaking so the characters can escape the monster, etc.

But Meaning of Life is a really close second. It was my introduction to Monty Python and I couldn't believe the crazy shit I was seeing as a kid. The teacher having sex in front of his students, the sperm song... wow. At the time, it was pretty much the most riotously hilarious thing I'd ever seen. It's still up there.

Meaning of Life is genius in parts (Mr. Creosote, Every Sperm Is Scared, Living Organ Transplants), and I love the anything goes approach, but there are looong stretches (the war segment) that just never seem to end.

I once spent an 8-hour work day texting back and forth Holy Grail quotes with a friend. So that movie gets my vote. Life of Brian is a close second for me.
