I know we're all down on DC here and stuff, but this sounds, uh, interesting.

Certainly, both creative teams are pretty cool (the Tiny Titans guys on a mainline title!), and the premise is...different, to say the least.

I can't remember if I posted that rumor about Beall's JUSTICE LEAGUE script getting rewritten or not, but Badass Digest reports that his script has now been junked by WB, claiming it was "terrible" and why major directors passed on it. Beall's scripted GANGSTER SQUAD bombing didn't help either.

Interestingly on that directors note, El Mayimbe (at Latino Review) on his Twitter feed claimed that when WB offered JUSTICE LEAGUE to Ben Affleck, they wanted him to also play Batman.

Holy shit, Geoff Johns is leaving Green Lantern.

    http://www.dccomics.com/blog/2013/02...en-lantern-run

Talk about the end of an era. His run (one of the biggest of any comic book writer in the modern era on a single book) totally redefined the character, and Sinestro Corps War is one of the best crossovers ever written. Who's gonna be stepping up to fill THOSE shoes?

The only comparative lengthy run by a writer on one title that springs to my immediate knowledge was Mark Gruenwald who worked on Captain America for a decade.

Batman on Film is reporting a rumor (salt over shoulder!)

Now, a source tells Batman On Film that, despite Justice League being delayed, the Batman franchise will still continue. However, it appears that the Caped Crusader will next be seen in his own solo film, rather than Justice League (assuming that the following is true, of course). "Don't worry about the Batman [film] franchise. It’s [Warner Bros.'] most valuable [DC Comics-based] asset. I believe that they are now looking at introducing [the rebooted] Batman in a solo film, though that will likely take place later than they initially had planned. They are extremely worried how a [the Batman film franchise] would be affect if Justice League bombs...and rightfully so." He/she then says, "The fact that what should be the core fanbase of a Justice League film isn't on board is making them sweat as well."

BOF previously heard that the Batman reboot will be released 2017 at the earliest, but their latest source claims that we could wait even longer if Man Of Steel is as big of a hit as WB is hoping. "If Superman is huge, then they’ve bought themselves some time and will have a franchise to hang their hat on for seven, eight years. The need for Batman won’t be as great, and [the reboot] of that franchise can wait until the Superman trilogy is done." And when can we expect the Dark Knight to return to the big screen? "Under that scenario [No Justice League in 2015 and Man Of Steel being a big hit], I’d say around 2019 or so."

"It's WB's most valuable DC Comics asset" is the equivalent of saying "They have ten pennies and a gold bar and the gold bar is the most valuable."

So the Scott Card thing is bad. I'm against blacklisting, and he has written two truly seminal novels, but I fully support the protest.

Eh, just don't read it then. It's not like he's going to have Superman saying "fuck the gays" in it. He's already written Iron Man comics too.

Also, what's the second seminal novel he's written? Ender's Game and ?

    Yes it is.

Also, El Mayimbe is already hyping up his next big scoop that he'll reveal the day after the Oscars and says it'll involve a member of the Justice League.

I bet another Batman movie, and its coming sooner than a JL movie. Or maybe they're finally going ahead with the Wonder Woman movie?

    Haha yeah right I know.

Is Marvel planning for a "52-esque" style reboot?

This seems to be mostly news rather than reviews, but...I just got around to reading the Astonishing X-Men Saga by Joss Whedon. Pretty much all of my hero-y comic experience is Whedon: Buffy Season 8, Firefly, now this. I would say this is definitely way better than those other 2, and now I’m off to read Fray, the Tales he wrote, and the Runaways arc he did.

I see that a criticism of his run is that the X-Men characters aren’t characterized accurately, but my main experience with X-Men is the animated show from over a decade ago that I don’t remember very well, so I like that the characters talk like Whedon’s characters generally do. I love Emma and Kitty (oft described as Buffy’s inspiration) and their interactions together, and while the other characters and relationships may be OOC compared to other comics, I judge the run on its own terms and I found them all to be richly rendered, surprisingly funny, and generally fascinating characters that I would eagerly follow weekly. Oh, another criticism is that Kitty saves the day too much, but I like that part.

However, I have no idea what they’re like in the hands of other writers. I am considering at least reading an issue of the new X-Men series with an all-female team (!) including favorites Kitty and Rogue and/or maybe the All-New X-Men with Emma and time-displaced Jean. With only 1 must-see show this year (Mad Men) and probably months until a must-see movie, why not introduce myself to a medium? Too bad the few graphic novels acclaimed to the point of being on critical literary favorites lists seem to be so male-centric.

Well since every comic book line has had a zombie-infestation storyline (I despised the Marvel Zombies crap), why not Archie too?
