Does anyone feel that this year has been one of the more "meh" in awhile for music? i mean, there's been good albums and songs, but... I dunno, this time last year I had fallen in love with quite a few albums. This year, the only one I truly adored was Fiona's, and it isn't even her best.
I'm in the same boat - I fell absolutely in love with Fiona and Frank Ocean's albums, but otherwise, nothing really grabbed me from this year. Most of the things that did grab me were things I hadn't heard from the more recent past (Charlotte Gainsbourg's 'IRM', Patrick Stump's 'Soul Punk').

I'm so happy for Grimes, I love her albums but I didn't expect to see her at the top of the list.
Have you guys realized that Lana del Rey made the list and Fiona did not ?!?!?!
Yes, no Fiona is dumb. But why the surprise with Lana making it? I think her album is actually a very accomplished pop album. It perfectly embodies the kind of artist she is, it's very cinematic and creates such a specific aesthetic that I'm not surprised it showed up.

I only like half of Grimes's album and I think Fiona's is better.

I'm pleased with the Grimes mention and it will definitely be one of my favorites at the end of the year, but I do agree, this year has been sort of lackluster. Just not much that's gotten me excited. Granted, I still haven't gotten around to Channel Orange (I know, I know...).

I just saw that Twin Shadow also did not make the Top 50!

And no Godspeed? Eno? Burial? Lambchop?

I'm pissed that there's no Kill for Love.

But then, I sorta hate NME in general, so I don't much care.

The Godspeed album didn't do much for me, either! The two long tracks were pretty stellar, but the two 6-minute droners just felt like a complete waste to me?

    Maybe I've just become bitchier?

I also agree that this year has been lackluster. I was even ambivalent towards two of my favorites, Animal Collective and Grizzly Bear!

Like Largo, my two favorites are far and away Fiona Apple and Frank Ocean.

This is exactly me this year. I'm not really jumping up and down to my favorites releases. I think my favorite albums this year may be the Frank Ocean, the Kendrick Lamar, the Lana del Rey and the Beach House. I still have quite a bit to catch up on though.

Last year I was spoiled by the Bon Iver and the Fleet Foxes albums.

I have a lot to catch up on, but I think it's been pretty strong? At the moment, my Top 5 would be:

    01. Jessie Ware – Devotion
    02. Frank Ocean – Channel Orange
    03. Miguel – Kaleidoscope Dream
    04. Beach House – Bloom
    05. Chromatics – Kill for Love

And then there's Twin Shadow's Confess, Amanda Mair's debut, Kendrick Lamar, Stars' The North, The xx's Coexist, and The Weeknd (if it counts!). Even Passion Pit was pretty strong this year! Maybe these aren't classics, but there is still a lot of strong material out there.

I guess one of my problems is that Beach House and Animal Collective and the xx are so aggressively not the kind of music I enjoy listening to. I can appreciate their craft, and that they are very good albums, but once was pretty much enough for me on those.

No Fiona on this lost is quite stange, but I love the mentions for Jessie Ware, Lana, Kendrick Lamar, Bat for Lashes, Beach House, and Frank Ocean.

It's also given me some stuff to listen to. Right now I'm on Grimes and it's strangely wonderful.

LOL, I thought I was the one getting bitchier.

    You're better than fine, boy.
