So when's the Rapunzel live-action flick getting made?
So when's the Rapunzel live-action flick getting made?
As others have said, mostly it's just the 2012 Snow White movies, but it's been my understanding that the hit ABC show Once Upon a Time is also to thank/blame for this.
Yeah, really. Largo's Aristocats idea is pretty awesome, though.
One of my many dream projects would be to make a live-action shot-for-shot remake of Bambi with no dialogue and all real animals just pantomiming that shit the whole way through. I'd love it. Others, probably not so much.
Lady and the Tramp could maybe be fun. Especially with no talking animals. Just lots of woofs and meows.
Also, they already did 101 Dalmations and that didn't really spawn anything else except for a sequel, so who knows. Maybe it dies with a live-action remake of Oliver and Company.
You know what, I would actually like a live-action Mulan. Obviously not a disneyfied version but it would be a great project for Asian actors.
I was going to make a joke about live-action Fantasia, but then I remembered that The Sorcerer's Apprentice is a thing that exists.
Goddammit, Disney.
The best thing to come from this 'fairy tale' movement was this:
That said, I'm a fan of Romanek and of course Goddess, so I'm keen for them to give this a go.
I think the problem with most of these movies is that these movies try to be adult oriented (with the action and stuff) that it just rubs me the wrong way. I mean updating the material to today's audience doesn't have to mean they need to make it more "edgy" or "action adventure like". It can be better if they can just be close to the material like that 2003 Peter Pan movie.
Saoirse Ronan, Alicia Vikander and Gabriella Wilde are testing for the lead role
Just after Cate Blanchett was reported as being in negotiations to play the evil step-mother in Disney’s Untitled Cinderella Story, we now have a trio of international actresses being eyed for the lead role. The contenders for the coveted glass slipper are the Irish-born Saoirse Ronan (Hanna), Britain’s Gabriella Wilde (The Three Musketeers) and Swedish Alicia Vikander (A Royal Affair). Originally pitched by Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada), Disney picked up the project for a substantial sum in 2010. Chris Weitz (About a Boy) wrote the script and Simon Kinberg (X-Men) will produce. Hit the jump for more.
Variety reports that Ronan, Wilde and Vikander are all scheduled to test for director Mark Romanek’s Untitled Cinderella Story. After Disney’s Alice in Wonderland has grossed over $1 billion worldwide, the studio was quick to set more of their fairy tale properties in motion. They weren’t the only ones, as Universal also has a Cinderella project in the works, as the property is now public domain.
oh I hope Vikander makes it in! Ronan would be great also, but that Gabriella Wilde girl cannot act to save her life. She was horrible in that retro wannabe/gamestop Three Musketeers!
I hope for Saorise Ronan. I love that she is beautiful, but in an unconventional way as opposed to the other two actresses testing for the role.
Either Ronan or Vikander would be terrific!
No, Zac, I'm going with my Nanny.
Ronan please!![]()
I know I've got a big ego, I really don't know why it's such a big deal, though.
Ronan or Vikander will suit me fine - both would be a kick butt Cinderella. Plus since Ronan auditioned for Hunger Games and Vikander for Snow White, it'd be a winner takes all with Cinderella.![]()
"It's better to over analyse than not analyse at all." NM. 2000.
I hope Blanchett declines this role. Not here for this.
I think this has a potential to be great given they pick the right actress for cinderella. She needs to be a good match for Blanchett or else we're gonna end up with a Kristen Stewart/Charlize Theron kind of situation where everyone was rooting for the evil character. That made for a messed up situation.
I've only enjoyed Romanek's work so far. He has a great great visual flair which is required for this kind of stories.
I ve gotta say there's nothing better than Hollywood royalty playing real evil characters. IT just makes for very fun movie experience regardless of quality of movie. ex: Jolie, Kidman, Blanchett, Streep... They have this untouchable quality to them that works great in these types of roles.
Mark Romanek is exiting
Disney didn't like Romanek's dark take on the story.
Bummer. I would've liked to see something different/darker.
