I want to make clear that of course, if Di Caprio is out and hence De Niro becomes Harvey’s #2 option instead of his #3, I’m totally predicting De Niro. AND the latest Django news are worrying, so…

But I’ll keep him in place until first reactions leak.

Anyways, with word that Django is over 3 hours and still not even being close to being finished... I'm starting to lose a lot of faith in the film as whole. I think I'm going to drop DiCaprio right now, part of the reason also being due to Harvey already having Hoffman and De Niro.

    I'm thinking:

    Robert De Niro
    Philip Seymour Hoffman
    Tommy Lee Jones
    Matthew McConaughey
    Eddie Redmayne

    alt. Leonardo DiCaprio
That lineup actually makes a lot of sense. Three veterans (one of them making a comeback), two Harvey contenders, two newcomers.

But Harvey has gotten 3 people into the same category before.

Eh, his contenders (DiCaprio sight unseen) are strong enough to do it.

But so are the rest. Or were until tweets for Crowe appeared (then again, tweets for redmayne also appeared!).

On the heels of his double Indie Spirit nominations, I really think McConaughey is in. The buzz is really strong for him this year and I think he's going to have a strong run. Dumping DiCaprio again.

    01. Tommy Lee Jones, Lincoln
    02. Philip Seymour Hoffman, The Master
    03. Robert DeNiro, Silver Linings Playbook
    04. Matthew McConaughey, Magic Mike
    05. Eddie Redmayne, Les Miserables

    06. Leonardo DiCaprio, Django Unchained
    07. Alan Arkin, Argo
    08. Ewan McGregor, The Impossible
    09. Dwight Henry, Beasts of the Southern Wild
    10. Russell Crowe, Les Miserables

I'm enjoying this nice boost for McConaughey. If he can supplement his double-Spirit nominations with a Supporting Actor win from NBR next week, I think he'll be in a really, really good position.

Plus, having more than one first-time nominee in this category is the norm. Last year was the only year in at least the past decade that this category had only one first-timer (Hill), so 2+ newbies happen 90+% of the time.

Henry took a hit by missing even at the Spirits. If he can hit BFCA and/or BAFTA, he could remain a contender, but he's certainly in trouble.

Also, I'm dropping DiCaprio for now. Django isn't even finished, and it's practically fucking December. Even if it does get released on schedule, I think being released so late may negatively affect its chances for the major precursors, where ballots are due in 13 days, and thus make it much harder for him to strike with Oscars.

    So:

Robert De Niro - Silver Linings Playbook
Philip Seymour Hoffman - The Master
    Tommy Lee Jones - Lincoln
    Matthew McConaughey - Magic Mike
    Eddie Redmayne - Les Miserables

It would be cool if McConaughey won NYFCC too. LAFCA, I'm doubtful, since they're way more adventurous/eccentric with their choices (LOL I still love my calling Niels Arestrup for A Prophet).

Let's wait and see what the other more important award shows have to say, remember some of the top contenders were not eligible here (Jones, Hoffman). De Deniro not making it here won't hurt him much, last year they also overlooked a big star like Clooney.

McConaughey is going to have such a strong narrative for the win next year.

Like, he gets his first nomination for playing a sexy stripper, and the Very. Next. Year. he loses 40 pounds to play a person with AIDS?

McConaughey's double nod from ISA today really makes it seem even likelier that he'll pick up some critics' wins for his body of work. This is exciting!

Great. Now who's going to watch Sunday Rose on SAG night??

Yeah, I'm thinking that McGregor is out and McConaughey is in...I mean, it's not like the Spirits mean a whole lot, but he is clearly liked a lot and this year has been very kind to him.

Oh, Silver Linings Playbook was eligible for ISA!!

AND ROBERT DE NIRO SUFFERED THE FIRST SNUB OF MANY TO COME!!!! DESPITE HIS TWO CO-STARS BEING NOMINATED!!!!! They could expand the category to six for Bradley, but not for Robert, to boot.

    Capitulate, ladies, capitulate already.
