The Master is not dead in the water. NOT. AT.ALL. Tonight Gotham Awards will happen and the movie has a veri good chance of wiining; tomorrow the Independent Spirit Awards will announce their nominees and, if eligible, it could sweep with nominationsThe Master, were it a more engaging, better film, could have been the Oscar frontrunner right now. It didn't deliver, audiences didn't take to it, and so it will be a marginal figure in the Oscar race. There's nothing Harvey can do at this point.![]()
In regards to the Best Actor category, most of you are predicting Daniel Day-Lewis to add another statuette to his cabinet. But as one of you lot said, unlike 2007, DDL faces a much stronger competition. And that got me thinking, could we be looking at (for the first time in the history of the Acting categories since 1968) the possibility of a tie between Mr. Day-Lewis and one of the other candidates?
I mean, if you want me to discuss the mathematical improbability of the votes of 6,000+ people ending in an exact tie, I could go there, but that really shouldn't be necessary.

This weekend...one last chance to save Halle's career from complete oblivion. Oh, wait...

It's not an argument that needs good points. Ties are not something that happen: it's only happened twice in acting categories. How on earth would you rationalize predicting a tie, when the chances of two candidates having both the most and the same number of votes is statistically minute, at best?
ETA: sio said it better.
1. DDL
2. Hugh Jackman
3. Joaquin Phoenix
4. Denzel Washington
5.a John Hawkes
5.b Bradley Cooper

Talking about a tie would only make sense if AMPAS was like a festival jury that comes together and decides on a winner; as it is, it's pointless.
People are replacing Joaquin Phoenix or Denzel Washington with Bradley Cooper?

Yeah, right now I'm predicting Washington misses, and I really don't care what anyone else has to say about it. So, suck it. I'll gladly eat crow if I'm wrong.
Eh, Hawkes and Phoenix aren't even remotely attractive IMO. Last year was soooo much sexier.
On that note, SAG needs to introduce a new award for Sexiest Ensemble and give it to Zero Dark Thirty.![]()
Ah, guany, obviously that award would go to Magic Mike?!
