LMAO this poster is so bitchy! I love it.

Marion was on Chelsea Lately the other night. It was one of the most awkward interviews I've ever seen...

If Marion Cotillard is finally nominated it would be incredible. First because I doubt I'ever seen a less oscary film than Rust and bone, and second because Cotillard, imho, does nothing to deserve an Oscar nomination for this.

Well, zero fucks are currently being given about anyone except Chastain.
I know I've got a big ego, I really don't know why it's such a big deal, though.

LOL, I won't argue about Cotillard's amazing performance, but Rust & Bone is Oscary enough. Not in your face and it loses a bit due to the language, but still. More Oscary than The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and that's just one example.

Eww, no, Girl with the dragon tattoo is a mainstream thriller directed by David Fincher with one of the most recognizable and talked characters of the last decade. Rush & bone is the opposite, I would be very surprised if any Academy member over 50 can see more than 20 minutes of R&B without stoping the screener.

TGWTDT is a cold, dark Euro-thriller. Rust & Bone is a dramatic but positive emotional melodrama. I don't get why something dramatic happening in a film would make them stop the screener. Films with tragedy got nominated before.

I guess is a combination of everything, this isn't the typical foreign film that Academy members are used to, especially if we are talking about acting nominations. We must remember that Academy has their issues with subtitles and they need something more to sit down and see a film like this. Not only the drama is going to stop some members, also the editing, the full frontal nudity of the male actor, the unnecesary tragedy of the film. Also this is by far the less accessible film directed by Audiard.
Oh, I forgot, Cotillard is supporting, i understand she is the female lead, but this film belongs to Matthias without any doubt.

For a foreign language film, Rust & Bone is basically as accessible to the AMPAS as it gets. It's a straight forward melodrama starring an Academy Award winner. Also, Marion is not supporting.

Maybe this is crazy....but I would not be surprised if both French ladies miss out this year....

I mean Cotillard is no sure thing - I always thought of her as a one-time Oscar nominee, wonderful as she is...nothing against her, but it is just so hard for a foreign language performance to make it in...of course the role is baity, but many people have said that it is subtle and quiet. 'Le Vie en Rose' was a once-in-a-lifetime role really, and an exception to the rules...

Riva is an unknown old French lady. Shouldn't be that way, but that is a big disadvantage when it comes to TV awards season...at least Imelda Staunton had the advantage of being in an English speaking film, Mike Leigh etc., Streep, Mirren, Dench etc. are all big stars....but Riva has none of that, plus the film is depressing.

    so the final line-up could be something like;

    Lawrence
    Chastain
    Wallis
    Watts
then Mirren or Dench or whoever...............?

which I actually think is entirely possible, given that Dench and Mirren are both perfectly capable of snagging SAG and/or BAFTA nods...

With her screener campaign and ISA nod Cardellini should be added to next month's poll.

Jennifer Lawrence named Outstanding Performer of the Year by Santa Barbara fest

It's an award that has a reliable habit of going to Oscar frontrunners. Previous recipients Colin Firth, Penelope Cruz, Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron all received the honor en route to their eventual Oscar wins, while Kate Winslet, Heath Ledger, James Franco and last year's recipient Viola Davis were honored in years they were nominated by the Academy. (The only time the SBIFF selectors behind this award haven't seen eye-to-eye with the Academy was with Angelina Jolie in 2007, who missed the Oscar cut for "A Mighty Heart.")

I left the film without knowing almost anything about her character. I found the film to be weaker than expected and with some lazy writting (I mean, Katy Perry's Fireworks?) Still is a good film but without any doubt the worst that Audiard has ever directed.
But I just don't want to make a bad impression, when I said I can't see her being nominated for the Oscar because she doesn't do anything to deserve that nomination, I didn't want to say that I dislike her performance (she is fine), but knowing as we know the Academy they won't find anything oscary in her performance at all. Her character seems baity in paper (she is disabled, etc) but in reality isn't baity at all.

I agree that this character is much more baity in theory then it actually is in the sense that it's actually a very subtle performance and this has been my main hesitation on Cotillard. But, I still don't think she's supporting at all. They're classic co-leads.

What is so lazy about using Katy Perry's Firework? I would suspect something so popular being used in such a big show. I mean, they're not going to use Lykke Li there (loved the inclusion of that in the club scene)

LOL, it seemed almost like it was included just for the weird-ass euphoric Firework scene near the end of the film...

Fireworks is used in two escenes, at the show and them when Cotillard is alone in her home. Is that second escene that I found lazy, because it's an obvious use of the song even if it's the song she used in the show.

It's the song that's actually used at that show, so that's why they sticked with it.

At home, she makes the same movements as she did in the show. It makes her remember happier times. Of course they are going to use the same song.

I hate Firework, hate it. But, I don't see what's so wrong or problematic in using it in the film. That's such a strange criticism.

Well, I don't want to be annoying but I think they used that song in the aquatic show just to have the oportunity of use the song again in that second escene, lol. For me that is lazy use of a song.
