Lol, Gothams are completely irrelevant when it comes to Oscars. Each of their awards is determined by really tiny juries (for ex, the Breakthrough Actor prize was chosen by a jury of 4 people), which lends itself to more idiosyncratic predictions.

I think they pretty much just choose what they want -- they definitely don't try to predict the Oscars (which is admirable). In 2009 and 2010, Jeremy Renner and Jennifer Lawrence lost the Breakthrough Awards to complete unknowns each time who had zero Oscar buzz. Even last year, Felicity Jones defeated Shailene Woodley and Elizabeth Olsen, both of whom had more Oscar buzz than Jones did. Basically, the Gothams do what they want. And they are not apologizing for it.

Yup. They just gave ensemble to "Your Sister's Sister" over Moonrise Kingdom and Silver Linings Playbook. So we basically learned nothing today. NBR and NYFCC should be better indicators.

    UGH!!! You are so right!!!

Anyway, if QWal had to lose, at least the award went to another black actress!

    A stunning one:

The ensemble is pretty great in "Your Sister's Sister," with DeWitt anchoring the film beautifully. Good win.

I just meant that the JLaw scene is one that emphasizes how hot she is, which is definitely a plus with the way old white straight guys rule AMPAS (plus she totally outshines Cooper even there). Obviously an actual Oscar scene would be one involving, like, throwing things or crying.

Emayatzy Corinealdi would be a terrific Actress nominee. But it's not likely, not because of the film's obscurity or her race or newcomer status, but because her character is indecisive throughout most of the film.

    Lawrence
    Cotillard
    Wallis
    Riva
    Chastain

It's actually not likely because nobody knows who the fuck she is and no one's even heard of her film.

Karger finally tweeted what he thought of ZD30:

Just out of #ZeroDarkThirty. So well done. Sure bet for nods for picture, orig screenplay, and Jessica Chastain. Maybe Kathryn Bigelow too.

You should've put that in the ZD30 thread not BA.

He also mentions Chastain, he's another that thinks she's a sure bet for a nomination.

So? The tweet was about the film as a whole not just Chastain. Can we all just not become Dirk and stop posting tweets in every thread we can. Articles are ok I guess but the tweets are getting out of hand.

But Chastain is a contender for Best Actress...I mean, I don't care for all the tweets either, but they've been going on all season (and not just from Dirk), so unless there's a new established rule, Dmitri's fine?
