Here's a lot on Crowe, some are reposts from you (mixed-Neg). Also, I looked through.. I didn't post the same negative tweets over and over from AwardsCircuit.

Hugh Jackman delivers his career best work. Samantha Barks is the breakout star and Eddie "sings like an angel" Redmayne OMG!!! #LesMiz

I don't know. Neither he nor Crowe are the story of the cast to me. RT @Brotycka: Jackman a lock for Best Actor?

    Dave Karger ‏@davekarger
Russell Crowe will be polarizing. I liked him but some people won't like his voice. Supp actor is weak so he has a shot tho. #LesMiserables

Hathaway is a stand-out, albeit in very few scenes; Jackman and Crowe singing is solid but doesn't reach for as much. #LesMiserables

    Someone who saw the film:

"Russell Crowe is not very good. You'd think he would be, but he's lackluster.

It's an expressionless performance, not helped by the fact that he has no vocal range at all. His two big numbers are shot the same way, too, unfortunately.

The decision to film the singing live is a daring one and adds immediacy to much of the film, but Crowe isn't a singer and Jackman singing full volume at the top of his range is not always easy on the ears. It would have helped had at least some of their singing actually been pre- or re-recorded. (Jackman's acting is strong enough to carry the film, however, and he does very well by "Bring Him Home".) "
    ---
The L.A. Times film critic wrote some thoughts on it, including pacing problems and more slightly negative word on Crowe.
There will be plenty of review takes later, so suffice to say that in-between the movie offers some rousing emotion and vivid set pieces, uneven pacing and the sight of Russell Crowe singing. (He's fine as the law-enforcing Javert but, like Hugh Jackman’s Jean Valjean and the other males in the cast, pales next to the women, Amanda Seyfried’s Cosette and particularly Anne Hathaway’s Fantine, whose single-take, close-up "I Dreamed a Dream" is bound to bring down multiplexes and land her on Oscar ballots.)
LOL, that’s exactly what I was talking about. To make your “negative” points about Crowe you’re using the LA Times who says he’s fine, Tapley who says he liked him but he’s not the stand out and Karger who said he liked him but others probably won’t. So you’re basically trying to sell three positive notices as negatives? All those three guys expressly say they liked him, lol!

Then you have one guy saying “solid but doesn’t reach much” (hardly negative), and “some guy” you never linked to (is that you? LoL) which is the only negative one. And you don’t even quote right the only legitimate tweet you had that’s negative, that is Clayton Davis’.

Kid, you have just two negatives. One is “Some guy” (no link, source, or anything) and the other one you don’t even quote the right post. I think you have nothing, dear. Better take the rest you promised you’d take.

As for Crowe's singing, lots of people in stage musicals have won Tonys (and Olivier awards) even though their voices are not that good. In some roles, acting is more important than singing, and Crowe certainly can act. And it's still hard for me to believe that Crowe really sounds that bad given that any vocal problems could have been fixed in the studio--Hooper is usually pretty fastidious when it comes to stuff like this.

Is Hathaway truly a lock for winning now? I don't think I'll be able to stand her if she does.

yah this is so winning production design with AK winning costumes. I cannot wait for this. I think I need to make a new sig with the glorious Hathaway.

Also I am not surprised with some feeling cold on Jackman. That featurette with him singing saying that Hooper wanted him to act some parts out was pretty cringe worthy. But anyone who doubts he is NOT getting in is uhmm retarded. He is the lead of the film, and he pretty much carries it along with Crowe and the supporting cast. He is in. He is very well liked in Hollywood...and dare I say if the DDL having two oscars already kills his chances for a third, then I think the oscar could very well be Jackmans.

Why is this marketing campaign so reliant on the weird 'floating heads' posters?

Aaron Tveit (Enjolras) is also in this still. In the original Broadway cast, the only male actor to win a Tony played this role. Obviously, Tveit has no chance for an Oscar nom, but he sings very well and is certainly easy on the eyes.

I don't know, but many sucessful movies have posters with floating heads, don't they?
    Seems to work.
Despite the overused Photoshop work, it looks (at least) like the epic it promises to be.

Because he doesn't matter. Crowe's head comes first, thus his nomination is assured and he is, as expected, the most important aspect of the entire film.

Every still so far looks like a set, rather than a "lived-in" environment.

Oh yes, I know that it gets used a lot. It just... bothers me, I guess. I look at a poster like that and think, "there wasn't a more innovative way to do that?" I really liked the poster of the young Cosette they used early on, that mimicked the production logo - it was interesting and different. Floating heads... everyone does floating heads.
