    R.I.P. Larry Hagman (1931 - 2012)

    Via the Chicago Tribune:

Larry Hagman, who played the conniving and mischievous J.R. Ewing on the TV show "Dallas," died Friday afternoon at a Dallas hospital, the Dallas Morning News reported. He was 81.

Hagman died of complications of his recent battle with cancer, members of his family said.

“Larry was back in his beloved Dallas, re-enacting the iconic role he loved most,” the family said in a statement. “Larry’s family and close friends had joined him in Dallas for the Thanksgiving holiday. When he passed, he was surrounded by loved ones. It was a peaceful passing, just as he had wished for. The family requests privacy at this time.”

How very sad. In particular, as a kid I grew up watching him on I Dream of Jeannie, a show I really loved and thought he was wonderful on. And then later on as a older kid, I watched him in the last seasons of Dallas, his most iconic role. He possessed charm and charisma in spades.

JR Ewing was awesome, a guy so evil, you couldn't help but by charmed by him. Also thanks to him and DALLAS for inspiring a memorable SIMPSONS cliffhanger.

(Really as a kid over that summer, I wondered who really shot Mr. Burns.)

Hagman was the best on Dallas. I saw a lot of the reruns and then the reboot which he stole completely.

He also was great in primary colors

    RIP

I also loved his small scene in Oliver Stone's NIXON when he plays the proxy stand-in for the corporate special interests, and Hopkins more or less tells him to go fuck off.

    EDIT - thank you YT.

He was brilliant in Primary Colors. A few scenes more and he'd've been deserving of some Supporting Actor talk that year.

It's weird that for a movie that got a handful of nods (Travolta should've been nominated IMO), its sorta been forgotten. Probably one of my favorite movies on politics.

    Oh no! That's really sad.
I've not been a great fan of Dallas, but I was simply fascinated of his powerful presence and liked him a lot in Jeannie.
    I'll miss that grin....
