I also didn't realize till fairly recently that fans of A Soldier's Daughter Never Cries exist. The only person even remotely in the convo for a nod from that was Kris Kristoferson, slightly, in supporting actor.
Yeah, I mean, I remember it getting good reviews, but just that...well, nobody really cared about it? I mean, other than the odd supporter. And for a filmmaking team like Merchant Ivory, it has to be seen as a dissapointment, maybe not like Jefferson in Paris/Golden Bowl/White Countess level of fiasco but it still didn't deliver in any kind of significant way with awards or audiences.
I think LeeLee's best work is The Glass House.
E.B.: [leaving movie] Scared the living crap out of me!
Ruby Baker: Meryl Streep, that girl was not.
Zoe: Who's Meryl Streep?
Tasha: Oh, Zoe, she's like Katie Holmes to our parents, okay?
Will Oscar have Riva Fever?
I'm going to go with none. Seriously. I would guess that Wasikowska has the best shot, but I'm still not predicting it. The problem with Emma Stone is that she's too comedic; comparing to people like Diane Keaton and Julia Roberts is strange because they actually did much more dramatic work in the beginning of their careers; Keaton was in the first two Godfathers, and then had Looking for Mr. Goodbar the very same year she did Annie Hall... Roberts got her first nomination for Steel Magnolias. So far, I'm not sure that Emma Stone can do drama.
I like Elle Fanning, but she doesn't have any range and I think as she gets older she'll continue to do mostly arthouse work and never get nominated for it. That, or she'll be the next Robin Wright. Yugh.
What I've realized from the last several years is that young ingenues get nominated when they first burst onto the scene, not when they've been around for a couple of years doing high-profile films (Legend Anne Hathaway being the exception). Look at Lawrence, Mulligan, Sidibe, Mara, Ronan, etc. Even when Knightley was nominated for P&P, she had only really been recognizable for at most 3 years.
Also, most of the actresses on this poll are horrible and they shouldn't be here in place of Wallis and Barks... who will obviously be nominated this year. And see! Nobody knew who they were before this year!
El Blunt was almost nominated
:siowafc:
Cate Blanchett
The Beautiful and Talented Godgend Señor El Diablo Blanchitto
Returning to Hollywood with a Vengeance in 2013
I was thinking about that the other day as a reason why i think Blunt and McAdams will have hard time getting nominated. They were by far the hottest starlets in business in 2005/2006, but they're old news now and would need to pull something really extraordinary to get noticed again because the industry is always going to go crazy over a younger ingenue. Both of them should have happened half a decade ago, now they're forever stuck in this semi-happenned but not really place.![]()

Abbie Cornish will soon no longer be a running joke on this forum...oh, she's 30 already? Yikes.
Ang Lee - The only 2x Bafta/DGA/Oscar-Winning Director!
Meryl on Oscars: Y’see these little babies? These are my best f***ing friends
and they never let me down. Try to get ‘em away from me and I’ll eat you alive.
This past year should help Blunt in that regard though: she's given three performances that have had various degrees of good reception and that are very different from each other: a mainstream rom-com (Five-Year Engagement), an indie (Your Sister's Sister), and a sci-fi actioner (Looper). Her stock has to have gone up in Hollywood.
Well, I don't think Blunt or McAdams are gettiing nominated in the next 5 years, but I could see them getting recognized like 15 years from now if they're not stuck doing television.
Is McAdams like 40 already?
Will Oscar have Riva Fever?
Actually, i think this year is kinda proving my point. Because Blunt got great reviews for three very different movies, but her career still doesn't seem to have much heat. IMO it's because hollywood already gave her multiple chances to become the next big thing, it didn't translate, so now they've moved on. It doesn't mean she doesn't or won't have a good career, but just like for McAdams it seems to me that she's going to forever be a girl who almost happened, kinda like Robin Wright too.

If I had to guess, I'd say:
Greta Gerwig
Mia Wasikowska
Emily Blunt (still seems like she could get something high profile soon...maybe supporting?)
Elle Fanning (although maybe in the next 15 years)
and maybe Alicia Vikander? or Elizabeth Olsen?
I could also see someone like Brit Marling getting Oscar buzz for a supporting role in a BP contender down the line.
