I'd say that's really strong praise for Chastain. And it helps that she's unambiguously the lead, as opposed to Lawrence, who is kind of lead, but sort of secondary to Bradley Cooper, who is truly the main character.

That's good ink for Chastain -good enough for a nomination. However, it sounds a really unemotional role which is not something that's going to win unless ZDT becomes a major player. It really does sound like the original reservations about Chastain's role were true before the sudden Jessica mania suddenly started couple of weeks ago. Sure Chastain can still win but unless she sweeps also the precursors, she's gonna stay in 2-3 spot on my list.

let's wait for more reviews, but so long as they remain on this level for the film and for Chastain, I think she's in...

The win I'm not so sure about, depends so much on the televised awards season narrative, campaign etc.

Lawrence is still clearly ahead (in terms of the win), followed by Chastain and even Watts as darkhorses....

So no Bi polar after all, mmhh ...

It seems to be quite a clinical and historical account of the events with 100+ (!) speaking roles.

No Lambs to be silenced a la Clarice, just incredible hard work for ten years ... will it be enough to silence the girl on fire ???

Also, that THR is one gigantic rave for Chastain.

Lmfao to say Chastain carries a movie like she never has before is not a gigantic rave. Except for some straight to dvd movie she has never carried a movie at all. The rest her word is just the reviewer describing her character.

No, Zac, I'm going with my Nanny.

You have a strange definition of the word 'rave'. It's a good review for her, nothing more.

Surely one of his horses has to win?

    Lawrence it is, I guess.
Well, Harvey doesn't win all the time. There have been years where he's won nothing. But, I'm still unsure about a Chastain win, mainly because while these few reviews have been quite strong, I question how emotional this character and this entire film is. What is her character arc going to be like? This is all important for a win.

Harvey hasn't gone home empty-handed (in the top eight, that is) since 2007. 2005-2007 was a weird period for Harvey, leaving Miramax and starting TWC. Since, 2008, he's done very well with getting major wins (Winslet, Cruz, Waltz, TKS, Hooper, Firth, The Artist, Hazanavicius, Meryl).

I would be surprised if he didn't get a major win this year.

I still don't see anything that implies Chastain can win. This just confirmed my theory that ZDT is not a character-driven film at all.

Watts beating Lawrence? Lawrence has much better reviews, her film has much better reviews and is a BP lock, they have the same number of previous nominations, Lawrence also has much attention for The Hunger Games,... The only thing Watts might have over Lawrence is box office...but we don't know that yet. Besides, The Hurt Locker beat Avatar. The end.
I know I've got a big ego, I really don't know why it's such a big deal, though.

    Wait.

Let's all back the fuck up for a second.

I've been on a humanitarian journey for a few months (kind of like lead Oscar winner Halle Berry's selfless efforts on behalf of hot, hot-headed European men) and I (perhaps mercifully) missed this disturbing bit of foul prognostication.

Gollum isn't even lead in a nerdfest movie called Hobbits, right? It would be called Gollums if this were true. While even I admit that early still shots of the ridiculous Blanchitto as the grotesque, cursed, diseased creature are quite convincing, no one will really take notice of her role as an ugly, undesirable, pathetic and rancid, malnournished mole-person. She's played it so frequently–like in The Good German, Benjamin Button, Critters, Robin Hood–that few will consider such a performance much of a stretch. That well in dry. Besides, she will naturally (or, in the cases of all things Blanchett, unnaturally) SPLIT THE VOTES. Will Seņor be nominated for actor, actress, special effects, etc.? WE KNOW NOT. VOTERS KNOW NOT. They will cast these alleged votes to the dank winds of sad chance, scattering El Diablo Blanchitto's Oscar hopes this year across all time and space.

Her Legions of Lesions should take solace in the joy soon experienced when they witness Seņor Blanchitto again profaning screens as DER GOLLUM in THE HOBBITS movie! That's something to cherish, for sure.

    MARCH 2013 PLAYLIST

Yeah, Oscar, I know. Like these people had Academy Award nominations in third grade.
